kilg0retr0ut do you void any time between cathing? How much urine do you normally get when you do cath?
I've been lucky I suppose. I haven't had a bad uti since my first one shortly after surgery. Once again I'm fortunate enough that I sorta pee. I can't explain how really. It's a combo of return, vassalage, and a ton pushing with my abs and core. Let's call it a hybrid technique .....haha. Always wanted to use the word hybrid. I use to pee in the measure cup thing and try to make it read less than 150-200ml but never really could get to the recommended safe amount. I know that when I set and feel I have totally emptied, then cath I seem to always be standing there for way to long. (I cath standing most of the time). That's why I've made an appointment to make sure I'm no doing too much damage, we'll and how long I can get away with it.

Oh, I see! Being able to kinda empty on your own is very useful. As long as you empty frequently and cath once or twice to get rid of the residual urine, you should be fine but seeing your urologist is a great idea.
Just wondering what possible damage dj and I may be doing to ourselves. I only cath once a day. I can sorta pee when my bladder is overfilled. I know I m not emptying fully. Does anyone know what that kind of abuse will bring, and how long would it take to cause problems. I'm have an appointment with my urologist soon and will ask her. My crazy way of thinking is if it takes like 20yrs to ruin your bladder then I'm good.
I also cath once a day just to make sure the bladder is fully emptied at least one time a day. My bladder will drain on its own during the day and night but not fully. Ive never gotten more than 500ml out when cathing and I think this is a safe number . But I have the same question as you kilg0retr0ut, is this a good practice.
I'm similar, I work on the homeopathic principle - if I drink enough, I can pee out the bugs faster than they breed, and cath at night to make sure I'm completely empty. ( Beer seems to work quite well . . . )

Have you tried drinking a couple glasses of nice wine when you have a UTI or bladder irritation? The antioxidants in it are good for your blood & bladder.

Never knew that Knight. I'm not a fan of wine bit I might like it when I'm older. I'd still drink in moderation though because too much wine can't be good for you.
Hate to be a party pooper Knight but this advice is from a bladder management page
Food and drink Drinking too much can make bladder symptoms worse - increasing the number of visits to the toilet and the urgency to urinate. On the other hand drinking too little can lead to concentrated urine that irritates the bladder and creates a good environment for infection. The general advice is to drink around one to two litres, or six to eight glasses, of liquid per day (more if the weather is hot or if exercising). Food and drink that can irritate the bladder and are best avoided include :
Drinks that contain caffeine - drinks such as coffee, tea, green tea, hot chocolate can cause irritation directly to the bladder lining. Alcohol - particularly white wine. Fizzy drinks - carbonated and highly coloured drinks have been shown to worsen some bladder symptoms. Acidic fruit and juices - citrus fruits including grapefruit, orange, lime, lemons and tomatoes. Spicy foods - studies suggest that people who avoid spicy foods, like curry, chilli pepper and cayenne pepper, may reduce their bladder symptoms. Record when you eat or drink any of these and see if they affect you. Source
DJ...why would wine taste different when your 'older' lol
When I drink just water or coke zero my pee is normally darkish, but when I drink beer it's as clear as water, and I pee often on beer, not so much on water and coke zero. So I think beer is the go, so don't stress hobbit.
P.S I have not had a UTI since leaving rehab/hospital
I read that fatty food is bad for your heart, beer is bad for your liver, sugar gives you diabetes, cakes make you fat, smoking gives you lung cancer . . . . so I gave up reading

Well taste buds change with age and I know a lot of people who have said that they started liking wine more as they aged. I wasn't a huge beer fan but I've found a love for it this year.

As strange as that is I guess it's a good thing. Have you tried drinking as much water as you do beer?
