I don't drive anymore. But after my SCI (I'm a T3 incomplete paraplegic), the vehicle we had to purchase is a Braun-ability adapted Dodge caravan, 2013.

Still driving the 98 Chevy, but it's getting rough. I see Andrew started this thread, haven't seen him post in awhile. He seemed like a busy fellow, wonder how he's doing. Still looking for a new truck. I may need to head south for one that isn't full of rust.

I like that I can sit up front next to my husband, or slightly back a bit so I can elevate my legs to prevent swelling on longer trips. It also has a really cool back-up video camera that's auto-activated when the van is put in reverse. I did notice that the 2014 model has a ramp that folds under the floor of the van, instead of just folding up next to the sliding door. That looks like a pretty cool feature. But since I have dual sliding doors, there's still a clear exit in case of emergency. Oh yeah, DJ, my dodge is a Grand Caravan too. Did you say yours was a crew van? That's longer, right? That would come in handy if I was hauling all my gear--portable hoyer lift, shower chair, luggage, etc. Not to mention my family ( there are 5 of us!)

I drive a 2011 Toyota Venza.
I have standard push/pull hand controls.
I take my wheels off of my chair and put them in the back seat along with my cushion. My frame of my chair sits in my passenger seat next to me.
If my husband or other passengers are with me then we leave my chair together and place it in the back cargo area of my car. My passengers lift my chair out and bring it to me during those times.

Woah, ramps that slide under the door?! That is pretty cool! Yeah we have the dual power sliding doors and the back up camera as well. The Crew is the highest/top of the line trim available. It's got the leather seats and full entertainment system and nice rims. I love sitting right up in the front too!
DJ...I do wish I had the whole entertainment package with my Dodge Caravan. I was still in rehab & my husband purchased it without me. I probably would have gone for a Town & Country, with the TV & all. But we had to do it quick, they wouldn't let me out of rehab @ the VA till we had a handicapped wheelchair accessible van. I'm lucky, since I'm a service- connected disabled ArmyVeteran, i only had to pay the base price for the van (pre-conversion). What a bargain! The VA paid the rest. I know I'm very fortunate to receive these benefits, & I so appreciate them so much! Oh, yeah, I did remember to have them change the cloth seats to leather! Yay!
I could really use a TV/VCR in my van today! I have 6 hour drive (3 hours each way) to the SCI Unit I get seen in Miami, Florida. Oooh, I hate that drive, 3 hours of jiggling around @ 70+ miles an hour! as my wheelchair seat is like sitting on jello to prevent pressure sores. I was there 1 month ago, but it seems like yesterday! They are such good people there, at the VA, that it's worth it. Usually all you ever hear about the VA is bad, but they have been great to me & I get everything I need & more.
