Thanks everyone for the responses. I feel it is imp to share this kind if vital info. I just found out i will be going to a special neurogenic bowel/ bladder clinic in two weeks( been waiting for six months) so i hope to discuss this as i also have developed a caruncle on my urethra which i believe was from straining to void before i learned intermittent cathing, Because of hand issues and difficult controlling the catheter i hav been cathing less and i think the balance is off. I normally have two BMS per day and the good old glycerin works for me too but i think its the rapidity of the matter moving out which tears my skin My actual bm is not too hard or soft and seems ideal. I have a v. Balanced diet high in fruit and veggies and some fibre every morning, ( sorry for those who do feel this is TMI) but where else can we discuss this and docs know so little? Thanks again,
Thankfully my haemorrhoids are behaving themselves at the moment, but when they misbehave I use a product called Proctosedyl Ointment, I apply it for two or three days and then everything is all good. But I must admit haemorrhoids can be a pain in the bum.
Unfortunately proctosedyl has cortisone in it:(
Hi peacewillcome, what's wrong Proctosedyl ?, sorry I'm not up on these drugs and things.
I did go to the site. Only the product called Anti Piles Blood Control gave a list of the herbs contained in the product. Those herbs are:
"It is totally an Ayurvedic medicine and it has all the herbal products like Lal Chandan, Geru, Lajalu, Kutaja, Belpatra, Kuraichala, Dhayphula, Kamal, Khas, and Shalmali Niryasa."
It may be a good product. I don't know. And I do like herbal preparations. But the information on the site is very poorly and awkwardly translated to English. In some instances it is non-sensical. Please advise the owners of the site/product that one way to improve their sales and their image would be to invest a few dollars in a professional translator so that the information on the site would make sense to readers of the English language.
I notice that peacewillcome, deserted us after starting the thread, and what a popular thread it is. Look at all the views. Must be problem for lots of people. Anyway, I just found a new possible remedy for hemorrhoids - bee propolis suppositories. You can make them yourself with a recipe of propolis, honey and beeswax (anyone whose ever used Manuka honey for a burn will appreciate its effectiveness on skin healing). You can find the recipe online. The propolis is claimed to help with inflammation and swelling, and it has anti-bacterial/anti fungal properties that also help to heal. They ones I purchased could be used as a suppository for hemms, or a pessary for yeast infections, etc. They weren't that cheap but after using for two days they seem to be working quite nicely on swelling. I was careful to only use on the outside at first, since like wavewolf, I'm very sensitive to perfumes or any kind of irritant in that region and didn't want a new bout of AD. So far so good. I can't say yet that they're a cure, but they certainly seem to have some positive effects. Here's the brand I got: link
The first thing that the thread title made me think of was a little bit funny, even though the topic isn't, was , hell: my hemorrhoids don't need any help, they are being hemorrhoids all on their own. Just gave me a chuckle, we have to find them where we can. Sorry, I hope that I haven't offended anyone.

I am having hemorrhoids and it's been a month I am on treatment firstly I have started with home remedies but I feel that it taking lot of time to heal so I started using Neo Healar Hemorrhoid treatment. Now its been a week I feel better pain is reducing also the rashness as well
Lots of very good information and advice on this post.
I would reiterate as others have said that having haemorrhoids is a very common side effect of SCI's and although not ideal it's also not that impacting on your life particularly if you cannot feel it and they don't really bleed. My doctor told me that and he is very experienced with spinal cord patients and wasn't concerned with mine as long as they weren't bleeding; causing pain or excessive spasm.
I eat lots of fibre; drink lots of water and rotate between taking senna and psyllium husk.
I have had about 4 occasions where mine have split causing a lot of bleeding which obviously isn't good and in the past I then had to do bowel care on the bed rather than on the toilet sitting up which doesn't work as well for me.
The last occasion happened recently and my carer that was with me recommended these- www.amazon.co.uk/Anusol-Suppositories-24-Personal-Care/dp/B002QEUG5W. They are suppositories which you can have in at night or in the day- they didn't leak when I used them so must be designed not to.
Normally in the past it's taken up to 2 weeks to heal a haemorrhoid (using creams) but with these I tried on the next bowel care (I do mine every other day) and it was totally fine. All the other creams and ointments I've tried have never had any success with this so I'm very glad my carer told me about them. It's good to have experienced carers!
I'm tempted to try the witch Hazel as like a daily thing just to see if it helps (I don't currently do anything apart from when one bursts) but it's such delicate area and I know someone above mentioned blistering. Do you think if I tried putting witch Hazel on my arm or something as a test patch if it doesn't blister their then it won't blister downstairs?

I cannot answer your question, but only add that when I have used witch hazel (I moistened a bit of paper towel and inserted it in the rectal opening) it worked fine for me. I will add that this was at the beginning of my SCI and that tissue is more delicate now. now I simply wash with water and coat with a bit of vasaline. That said, my hemorrhoids are not active now.
I step in the water, but the water has moved on...
