Im interested to know if anyone else suffers with burning nerve pain in their feet and if so..have you noticed that it is much worse in the warmer weather?
I have noticed that in the warmer weather my feet burn like crazy at night.(and my lower legs)..There is no relief from it...i end up not sleeping great and hanging my legs out of bed to try and cool them off and also because my duvet irritates them.
They are burning now but to touch they feel cold still..it makes no sense So I understand that i have significant nerve damage to my feet...my consultant explained that a factor is that the feet are the furthest extremity from the site of injury.
I am presuming that the nerves become more severely damaged there because we 'time out' of possible nerve regeneration due to the very slow rate it occurs as regeneration starts firstly nearest to where the damage occurs and then progresses along the nerve.
So unfortunately the feet miss out...well in my case lol
I understand that the brain is looking out for us because it cant figure whats going on with the feet as no signal can be sent and received and therefor with any increase of temperature our brain says 'hold on..your fight may be on fire...im not sure but if i tell you they are then you will look out for them' BUT really..is that necessary because i NEED to sleep!
I saw this pic yesterday and it just reminds me of how my feet feel when they burn like crazy plus are numb and hypersensitive to touch....pretty cool pic!
Hi Lαrα, I don't get burning feet as such, I get a very tight feeling around mine about where the toes join the foot, not painful but I can defiantly feel it.
I get that too Lara, while in hospital I used to drive them mad, they'd make my bed, then I'd go round folding all the sheets up from the bottom. Yes, worse now it's warmer too.

Me Too! Been worse lately. And sensitivity to touch. Thought it might be just the progression of CES, didn't think of the fact the weather may be part of it. This doesn't pertain to the thread, but I also had spasm's in my unit all night long. Just little buzzes, first time I've had these. This is some silly s***.
It seems that there is a definite link to the weather getting warmer, especially that you guys have noticed the difference too. I once looked for info on this on the net and i read somewhere that the brain tries to make sense of what it cant figure out.
So once there is an increase in temperature...the brain tells us that our feet are on fire so we notice our feet...and will look out for them. So if the temp drops then the burning reduces...but is always there but we notice it more when our mind isnt occupied. I guess its the brains back up plan...if we think our feet are on fire..we will sure be checking them. This is why trying to ease the burning dosent always help enough. Because its not a signal being carried to our feet necessarily...but its our brain telling us.Its crazy stuff right there lol
When i can find the info on it i will post it up..
A way we like to look at it is that your body is trying to communicate that change (or that SOMETHING is different) but it can't tell you the way an "able-bodied" response would. I like to think of the spinal cord as a two way freeway, where an injured spinal cord has a break in the road.. The cars still go but drop off and try to find another way to it's destination (your limbs if it's movement, your brain if it's sensory). A car coming back to your brain to tell you your feet are cold might jump to a different lane (like the burning sensation you feel, or tingling, etc) so like you said Lαrα the brain tries to make sense of what it's being given. Simply put, you may feel heat when your feet are cold, tingling when something bumps you, or even something like goosebumps if you need to use the bathroom.
My feet burn a lot of the time, especially on the soles and on the insides of the heels. The burning radiates up past my knees. Electrical zingers coming down the legs from the spinal cord and out through the toes meet the burning and it can get pretty awful. Currently having bad back spasms due to zingers, but spine itself is OK. Sometimes I feel as if the flesh on feet and legs is sticking to my bed sheets and will rip off when I turn, so I try to lie still. Warm weather makes this more intense, but I need to keep a light cover on my legs to keep them warm or it is worse still! I cannot take opiates, makes me nauseated and very constipated, and now with new heart med are not a good interaction. I am researching PEA (palmitoylethanolamide) for neuropathic pain relief, and am using R-alpha lipoic acid with some success in managing the burning feet. I hope to post shortly about PEA, which has proven very successful alone or better yet in combination with R-ALA.
I get the same, my left leg burns all the time and have to hang it out of the side of the bed at night. While my right leg goes into spasm throughout the night. But I have noticed that the left leg has feels hotter since the weather has become warmer. Also if I get into a bath although the water is on the hot side, it feels cold on my legs.
