Posture is very important! The body will be forced to work in tandem with keeping you stable if you sit up correctly, thus improving your core strength even if it doesn't feel like it's "working." They have these "reminder" shirts that are a tad difficult to get on, but constantly remind you and reinforce correct posture.
Ive taken a look at the link kyle and im not sure how suitable these 'suits' would actually be for someone with a spinal cord injury. The chair is fundamentally the key to sitting correctly within the chair, that being one that is adjusted appropriately.
I would advise anyone even considering to one of these suits to actually get advice from your physio or consultant first. There must be more practical ways to work on posture such as core strengthening etc.
I will look more into this product and if it looks useful we can have a post on it within the adapted living section..If its hard to get on, it will be hard to get off for catheterising too!
Lαrα, that's my bad. I should have mentioned that we've used these while working with clients out of their chairs. As for daily use, it might not be beneficial... =/
Lαrα, thanks for the bump on this old topic. I have noticed that posture is becoming less important because of computer, phone and tablet usage. I see many people in chairs who are hunched forward for hours at a time. I even see it with my friends who are abs in that they complain about back and hip issues. The biggest complaint with many of my friends in chairs is pelvic obliquity, which is supposedly due to bad posture. However, I think a lot of people don't have the ability to stretch out their hips on an everyday basis. It is a problem that I hope PTs stress as an important stretch each day for the newly injured.
Inspiration comes and goes but when it arrives, oh how I cherish it.
