I couldn't find a thread on here about in-home elevators and stair lifts, etc. I thought I would start the conversation because right now I am in the market for an elevator and I'm having difficulty picking the right one that is in my price range. Have any of you had experience with this? I'm in Ontario, so preferably something made in Canada that would be great. Also, I'd be interested to hear how your experiences went and which vendors you went with.
One type of elevator that I'm really interested in is the vacuum lift, but they seem to be really expensive.
Without hard times in life, we would never know the true feeling of happiness.
I had installed one to take me up a n 8 step ramp, it cost 11,000 euro to install. Problem is that now the guarantee has expired and the maintenance agreement is a rip off. i am charged 40 euro per hours work on it. Last technician did not have a clue about what was wrong with it, After spending 6 hr trial and error and changing various parts he came back again and spent another 2 hours. He changed the battery but it was not a at fault so you can think of the argument that came later when i was presented with a 10hr bill due to an incompetent technician. In hindsight it would have been much better to make structural changes and install a winding ramp which is much more reliable and low maintenance.
delboy that really sucks what happened to you! Fortunately for me, my stepfather is really handy with stuff like that and he is also a technician that works for a company called Silvercross.

I actually got my home adapted through Silvercross!
i think it may be a work ethics or work culture problem, here we have a lot to learn about taking pride in our work and not trying solely to make a fast euro. I too come from the building services industry should someone criticize my workmanship or claim i did it badly would drive me nuts and hit my pride hard. i see too many people taking this as if nothing happened, the only weapon one can use here is to not part with your money before you are completely satisfied as they will not come afterwards to fix their mistakes after you ve paid them or make up an excuse. Going to court on minor issues is not worth the hassle or legal expenses. i have lost trust long ago on how our locals operate and insist to be personally present as each time i am not there is always some unexpected added expense. The most serious people i have met regards work ethics are the Germans and the Swiss. The Mediterranean work culture is not good.
