Hi. I believe this is my first post. I have been "lurking". I have had CES since a little accident which required surgery to remove blood clots in my spinal column in Dec. 2013. I have severe scoliosis and associated back pain which could easily prevent me from doing much but I am stubborn and I have found that keeping active keeps the pain in check! I never lost the use of my legs. I have numbness in the saddle area and down the backs of my legs and a few numb spots on the bottom of my feet. Therefore I am careful about where I step and what activities I attempt.
Walking is the best for me: sometimes I wear my full back brace for support (to hold me straight) and sometimes I use my Nordic walking sticks to remind me with every step to straighten up.

Hi Durdle, it's good to see you! I agree with you. Walking is the best thing to do, fresh air is wonderful and it generally makes me feel better. But I am like you. Sometimes I just don't feel like it! When I am sore I just want to go back to bed. What's a good motivator?
My motivator is to have someone to walk with. During the summer one of my sisters is normally around and willing to walk so that is perfect: chat and visit while you walk! Sometimes it is nice to walk alone and clear your head but most times I like company. In the colder months, I really don't find it easy to get motivated to go outside. We have a treadmill in the basement with a TV on the wall in front of it. I can go there and walk while I watch a show that my husband doesn't like. Quite often one of us goes down to walk while the other watches a different program on TV upstairs. Works as a good compromise.

Hey durdle, having company is quite nice at times. For me, I find the motivation to wheel greater when I know someone will be with me. If I'm in my power chair, I'd probably prefer being on my own. Winters do suck but it's nice that you're able to keep active!
