It is amazing all the money that is being poured into Mechanical legs right now. We have four strong companies. Rewalk, Ekso, Indigo, and the Rex. All big dollar companies. I stand everyday and use my standing glider. IT reminds me of the days of using an elliptical. I also take 10,000 IU units of Vitamin D a day. My bone density has stayed at 1.5 over the last seven years. I haven't lost any or gained any bone mass. I look at it as being good.
I believe these walking units will focus more on Rehab facilities and many type of injuries. I would get a unit if I regained some Asia levels where I could feel my toes. Then I believe I would walk much better and without the crutches.
It is very strange walking in one. You hear the gears and unit working and you kind of look like robo cop on your legs. It's not a unit I would want to take out in public. I can move much faster in my manual chair. I am glad I did have the opportunity to at least experience the Re-Walk.

I actually dont think i would want to wear one out in public either...it may be false vanity but i wouldnt like that look....and people staring either. I can see how they may help in rehab..especially as many will be in recovery and improving and moving along the ASIA scale as you discussed.
What happens if the unit runs out? I presume there is a pre warning and a bit of back up, like a reserve?
You wear a mini back pack with a computer the size of an I-pad. They have a special watch that is used to send signals to the I-pad that control the legs. I believe the batteries last about ten hours. I never trained in the unit more than two hours at a time. It takes a lot of energy out of you using the unit, until you learn how to let the legs do all the work.
I am going to see Dr. Wise Young on October 3rd talk about china sci net and the Phase three studies in the U.S. I hope it passes through FDA and they can start putting us back together. I am 51 and it would be a Blessing to walk again before I leave this planet. Best Wishes, Joe

Absolutely and I too hope you will do..joemonte..and lets be honest..it isnt an impossible hope
Excellent review joemonte, thanks for sharing that! You brought out some good points that I've always thought about which is why I found it to be impractical.
The news on Rewalk today is that the first insurance company approved a Rewalk purchase for personal use. That's big news and the stock was up today $31/share. Thanks Joemonte for the great information. I am a T12 incomplete and certainly think the unit would help me. Furthermore, at $69,500 I think it is reasonably priced. My POS standing wheelchair was, I think, $82,000. I would much rather a Rewalk and a manual chair. That would have been cheaper.
I don't understand the negativity towards this technology. What money do you think is being diverted from cure research to exoskeleton manufacturers? Rewalk is a company that is producing a product to sell for a profit.
I too think it is certainly an excellent product..it gives an option for upright mobility for many. Im not sure why the negativity either because so far, its achieved more than cure research has.
Im not sure i would use because i use crutches for my walking and fortunately i can be mobile this way. Im sure there is a section of individuals who this unit is perfect for.
Its amazing news that an insurance company is taking this on..others will follow im sure dlevy
