I am not sure people will see much difference between the two wheelchair images. You are showing yourself already in a chair, so what's the problem. I know we understand the difference but will others?
So, it's been a very long time since this thread's been active. I learned a couple weeks ago that the time between new wheelchairs my insurance will cover has increased to 5 years from 3! I have to wait until October AND prove to them that the Q7 does not meet my needs. I don't understand why an able-bodied person is in charge of choosing what is comfortable and necessary for a disabled person!
OK, I have a couple questions for you guys as well: What are your experiences with wheelchair dealers? Online vs in-store?
Curious what the total amount is for the chair you're aiming for?
I purchased my last chair through Sportaid.com. It was the Colours Spazz-G, which was about $1400 and came with 2 sets of tires. I bought it out of pocket because I didn't have insurance and all the others were outside of my price range. I had purchased it in 2012, and it is still my main chair. By far the most mobile and versatile one too. I have had Quickies all the times before and they never held up as well as this one has. It took about 5 weeks for the order to be placed until the time it was delivered. Some of my measurements were a bit off, but the chair as about 40 different adjustments that allowed me to change it with a few screw drivers and allen wrenches. If you have to pay out of pocket, Colours is probably the least expensive to buy. I know everyone's scenario is different, but might be worth looking at.
A suggestion as well - monetize your youtube channel? It's an extremely easy way to bring in a few extra bucks and may also be an added source of income to help the fund, not to mention exposure to those who might be in a position to help if you include something like a Paypal link. Monetized channels make about $1.30 per 1000 views, and if you have anything worth publishing on youtube - makeup tutorials, exercise routines, PT, instructional videos for things like transferring from the chair to a bed - anything there's an audience for, YouTube can be a hugely profitable platform for awareness and exposure to some that might be inclined to contribute financially.
Just a thought. I've been using Youtube for a hobby, and the revenue has almost turned into a full time job income. Seriously. It's a huge window to crawl in if you're comfortable enough in front of a camera.
My Quickie Q7 is a 16"x16" when my measurements are 16"x15". I had pressure sores on the backs of my knees from using it and the Stimulite cushion. The cushion has a lump in the middle to spread my legs apart, which is really uncomfortable and hard to control my lower legs! There is no taper in the front whatsoever, so my feet flopped EVERYWHERE! I broke 3 toes in the first 3 months! (Interesting fact: my mom sat in the Q7 and noted the cushion and nylon seat sling were digging into the backs of her knees and guess what? She is 2 inches taller than I am!)
Now I did love the Stimulite cushion, besides the middle lump and it being too long for my thighs. If I could somehow shorted it and flatten it or get a flat one, I'd be very happy, as would my bum.
Loading into my Explorer was a nightmare! I had to transfer in on the passenger side because the frame wouldn't fit in & over me in the driver's side, even with the seat all the way back. The problem: the HANDLES, which I had requested not to have, are permanent & non-folding. Now, you'd think an aluminum chair would be lightweight, right? Is 25 pounds lightweight, especially when you have to lift it one-armed into a vehicle with high ground clearance. Also, since I had to transfer over to the driver's seat from the passenger seat, I had to scoot up and over the hard plastic middle console, which eventually broke from the weight.
I just wish I would've had a say in something I'm supposed to be living in! They measured me wrong and the salesman didn't show me any choices other than the Quickie Q7. All this SCI stuff was a mystery to me. I didn't even know there were titanium chairs at that point.
I really wish I would've done more Google searches and educated myself rather than listen to able-bodied people who have probably treated only 1 or 2 other people with SCI's.
Prices: the Q7 was about $2600. The chair I want is the TiLite TRA or something similar (I hadn't thought of how the 2 bottom bars on the TRA would affect how it would sit in my car.) I already own a set of 25" Spinergy wheels with air tires & Natural Fit handrims that I saved up for and bought out-of-pocket, so that'd save them a few hundred dollars. The TRA frame costs about $3500. I will never settle for an aluminum wheelchair again, even if it means picking up a little bit of the cost for a Titanium chair.
OK, I know I've been absent from here for an extended period of time, but my 5 year mark for getting a new chair is in October 2017, and after a lot of thinking, I require some input from you other wheelchair users, please! I've wanted the TRA for a while now, but I think the extra tubes underneath it will hinder &/or somehow affect loading into & unloading from my car. The L-shape of my Quickies make it easy to put the 2 wheels in, then sit the frame over them with the front & caster wheels in front of the wheels... you guys know what I mean! I definitely have a few more details to go over before I order my new chair in Oct. I don't want the same fiasco that happened with my 1st wheelchair, the Quickie Q7! I'm not gonna let some able-bodied person mis-measure me and making such an important decision for me.

I'd appreciate some input/advice! Thanks!
Hey knight,
this is the way I stow my chair in my car:
Loading the chair into the car is no problem as my car has long doors like the car in one of the videos above.
But I can't stow the chair on the back seat because of some unnecessary features of the chair: - Main problem: the fixed push handles. I don't need them at all. And (guess what) the chair was ordered with them without my authorization. (Sounds familiar?) - The chair was also built a little bit longer than necessary. As you will notice I use a slightly shorter cushion to give some extra space to my knees.
For my next chair I would consider a chair with fixed rear seat height. The clamps and bears holding the axle on my current chair are unnecessarily long. Thus building a chair with fixed height would make the chair smaller and lighter. Taper is ok.
Many manufacturers offer demo chairs. Try to get one and see what works best for you. Probably you already know. Go and study order forms of different models and see what you can get for your money. Go to different companies and ask ... and ask ... and ask...
I don't know how to avoid that someone else orders your chair with unauthorized adjustments. But try to find out if your insurance accepts ordering a chair online as suggested by Ashley above.

Why did you accept the chair if that was all wrong? This same thing happened to me where that DME ignored me after it was ordered, and then it ended up being wrong. I down right refused it, so they had to build another one, and eat the cost on the first one. Moral of the story: don't let them walk (no pun intended) all over you.

The chair itself is very comfortable. On bad days the extra length gives good support. I was a hybrid walker when I got the chair. So the problem with the push handles was no big problem previously. I could throw the chair in the back of my car by myself. Later, after I have had my latest accident one year ago, I learned to appreciate some of the features the chair has to offer.
For instance, I could easily adjust the rear seat height to get more dump. And the fixed push handles are useful when I slip up or downwards my stairs at home. I can easily grab the push handles and pull the chair behind or in front of me.
In case that I need the passenger seat for another person now, well, I don't accept passengers anymore. After surviving two terrible car accidents, that were caused by third party negligence, I don't want bear responsibility for another person anymore. It is not save for any other person to stay close to me.
At the moment I'm lucky that the chair is as it is. Nevertheless next time I don't let them walk all over me again. Promised.
P.S.: There is no perfect chair. Many adjustments depend on the situations where and how you use your chair.
P.P.S.: The purpose of my previous post was to discuss knight's situation thoroughly.
Trying to be serious again. Back to your question why I accepted the chair. After fighting for this chair (TiLite ZRA) for about two years I was finally happy to get it. When I was in rehab last november, I still had the best chair in town.
I've Frankensteined my Q7's parts onto my Quickie Ti! I've been in demo chairs and taken all my measurements correctly. I'm not sure how Medicare works if I want to order a chair not thru Great Plains Rehab Services (the company that mis-measured me and ordered unnecessary parts on my Q7). There is probably some restriction stating I can only use a company in-state or some other crap even though Medicare is federal. There are a million miles of red tape and hoops I've had to jump through just to get to pee daily. I can imagine I'll have at least half of that amount of crap i have to prove before I get a new chair. These people are *grrrrrrr* so stuck in their ways and have no clue what it's like to live and get around in a wheelchair and still be independent. If they had their way, I'd be bed-ridden and stuck in a nursing home.
I finally got my brand new TiLite ZRA on April 17, 2018! I only had to cover about 27% of the cost out-of-pocket, & thanks to DJ and all of you guys here on the forum and especially all the people who donated, part of that cost was taken care of. I already am feeling the difference! No more squeezing my 16" wide hips & butt into a 14" chair (I gained weight ) and the back of this chair is higher & adjustable, so I can actually handle being in the chair for a while. I'll post a photo here soon, once I figure out how to work Tapatalk again!
Am I missing something? There are members here who are at the point of having to give up their homes, their lives and move into a residential home because they cannot afford even basic medication or healthcare. They are frantically searching for ways of making extra money in order to keep themselves out of these institutions. They can't even afford to buy a cushion for their wheelchair, let alone a new wheelchair. I'm sorry to pour ice cubes down people's backs, and I'm probably going to get flamed for this post, but why aren't we funding them? Incidentally earning money via U-tube was a brilliant suggestion. Is it an easy process to set up?
So, Knight, you got trashed last night. No offense to you personally. Good luck and enjoy yourself. But like I said in my previous post, there are people really struggling here, struggling so hard they cannot afford luxuries like going out and getting trashed on alcohol. You may have trashed any chance of further charitable funds for your chair. I know who I'd rather send my money to.
I’ll go ahead and chime in. I do understand needing a 16” chair for a 16” butt. That is somehing we all need. But I have one manual chair that is missing an arm. The weld broke and it can’t be fixed. And I have another wheelchair that was given to me. But both tires have dissentegrated, probably due to a poor storage environment by the previous owner. I will have to buy the entire new wheels, not just tires. I have no way to transport my wheelchair to a repair shop. And a basc home repair visit costs about $50,...which I can’t afford. I do have a lovely electronic wheelchair from the government. But it is too large to use inside my tiny house,...a tract home built for soldiers coming home from the Korean War. So, when I see go-fund-me’s for luxuries, I am not enthusiastic, and of course, I don’t contribute. There was a go-fund-me on another forum for somene who got a CAR!
