i've read about these experiments on dogs, that they took the tissue from their noses, implanted them on their spine, and they walked again. Looks like it works on humans as well!!!
Sorry to say that no trial yet for chronic lower lumbosacral injuries to restore specially bbs function. Hope epidural therapy can do it but again 5 to 7 years wait is ing.
Ive just watched the News here in the UK and it does look interesting..Cells were taken from the patients nose..But now they plan to trial 10 patients..

What do you mean jawaid? This specific research is only for higher injuries?
No Lαrα, I believe it was carried out in Poland however some uk doctors were involved, and next researches are gonna take place in uk. But who cars right
I put the scientific abstract, video and news articles on the blog for anyone wanting to follow along. (And no, this is not only for higher injuries as the patient did show recovery in the bowel, bladder and sexual function according to the published paper).

I think you are correct Europedude, i stand corrected I was only half listening to the news lol
Darek Fidyka, who was paralysed from the chest down in a knife attack in 2010, can now walk using a frame. The treatment, a world first, was carried out by surgeons in Poland in collaboration with scientists in London.
''I have waited 40 years for something like this”
Prof Wagih El Masri
Consultant spinal injuries surgeon
Details of the research are published in the journal Cell Transplantation.
BBC One's Panorama programme had unique access to the project and spent a year charting the patient's rehabilitation.

Don't worry jawaid, there'll be a cure for all of us before we know it!
Professor Geoffrey Raisman, whose team at University College London’s institute of neurology discovered the technique, said: “We believe that this procedure is the breakthrough which, as it is further developed, will result in a historic change in the currently hopeless outlook for people disabled by spinal cord injury.”
The surgery was performed by a Polish team led by one of the world’s top spinal repair experts, Dr Pawel Tabakow, from Wroclaw Medical University, and involved transplanting olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) from the nose to the spinal cord.
OECs assist the repair of damaged nerves that transmit smell messages by opening up pathways for them to the olfactory bulbs in the forebrain. Relocated to the spinal cord, they appear to enable the ends of severed nerve fibres to grow and join together – something that was previously thought to be impossible. Source
This must be amazingly satisfying for the Neurosurgeons involved
Paralyzed Man walks Break Through Spinal Treatment.
A paralysed Bulgarian man can walk again after receiving revolutionary treatment in Poland in a breakthrough hailed by one of the British scientists responsible as "more impressive than a man walking on the Moon".

My thoughts? I had OEG done 10 year ago, i’m still waiting form those old dendrites to re-connect. Any day now.
Science and technology has greatly improved over the last 10 years timc4, we've seen positive results recently so now we must wait for it to be available to the public.
