I have an offer to work in Dallas TX, moving from WI. I am wondering more about the area and how disabled friendly the community is. What support groups are available, housing market. Other then the weather, what is Dallas like, would you recommend the move and why. I am a C-7 quad.
Congratulations on your marriage! Dallas is a thriving metropolis, and you won't have to deal with snow! Texans are friendly, and Dallas is not provincial in any manner. It does stay hot there for a good part of the year. If the pay is good, and work will be stable--although who can really know, right?--and your wife is for it, then I say give it a go!!! Sometimes a real change propels us forward in life. Medical access should be quite good. Maybe your current doctors can help you connect to continuing care there. Changing doctors when you have found good ones who know your case can be a chore. Maybe you are not in need of continuing care, injury being fairly long ago. I suggest searching for "wheelchair accessible living, Dallas, TX" and see what you come up with. I remember that Mobility Magazine (online source for wheelers, published by USCIA) has had several articles about accessibility in major US cities.

Hi Andrew, Congrats on the job offer in Dallas. I'm not native Texan but I've lived here for the last 11 years and love the DFW area. Accessibility, access to medical care by SCI certified docs, and a thriving economy make it a nice place to live. If you are into adapted sports and recreation or just want to network with local chair users then I would check out Rise Adventures. They are very active in the community. The most popular local DME is C&R medical and the best place to have hand controls/lifts ect serviced is Advanced mobility. People are very nice here. I live in Fort Worth and Dallas does seem like a different country compared to FTW. It's fast paced, high traffic, and big buildings and overlapping highways make FTW seem very relaxed. They are both equally great though. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help.

I accepted the job and will be there on January 5th. I'm sure i'll have some more questions for you. Thank you for your support.
andrew, Outstanding--the adventure is ON! Wishing you the best as you pare down, pack up, and get ready for a new job, home, and friends. We won't be seeing you for a while--major endeavor, to be sure. But very exciting, and rooting for your success on all levels!
Wel I made it to Texas. I have an apartment in Grand Prairie. It's not the best but am greatful to have a place to stay. Job is good and people are very friendly. Not sure that this area is for me, not a big city guy i'm finding out. offroaderswife, taking a riide over to FTW to see how things are there. I like the slower pace of things. All in all things are good. Not sure the direction God has for me but then again, I never have. I just know He loves me and wants the best for us.

Sometimes we get sent in directions and we never know why until we to where we are meant to be. Then it makes sense to us
