I didn't catch the dosage amounts for the prune juice. I used to take five gulps a morning when I used it in the past. Yesterday I slammed 320z of the good stuff warm, sadly without lemon. I haven't cracked open my sardines yet, I have to admit I've always been a fan of the mustard sauce. Thought I'd give the juice a day to do it's thing.

Well lets see, closing in on two weeks. I'll be going for my second course of prune juice and little oily fish. I have to admit the sardines were better than i remember. Having some minor night sweat issues, one more try, then I may have to try some Miralax. I hate the stuff because once taken it's a crap shoot. Was that a pun?

Nah, it's fine DJ. It's close, I can tell. I think it may be to soft at this point. Had a little luck this morning with what my doctor calls the dilly manuver. (hehe) Never thought I talk so openly about my em er..issues. I do believe I've lost maybe all of my push power, I'm not feeling any kind of urge either. Butt low and behold some was waiting for evacuation. SCI is so humbling. There seemed to be a party going on in my stomach last night so I'm guessing the juice and fishy's were up late doing their thing..
I take laxatives each night before the mornings I do my bowel routine (every night) but they wouldn't do much if it weren't for the other "natural laxatives/stool softeners" I consume. Everyday I have a fruit smoothie consisting of yogurt, ice, sometimes milk, fresh blueberries, strawberries, sometimes a banana and most importantly papaya & mangoes. It's an extremely healthy and tasty drink that serves many good purposes for our bodies but most importantly for the bowels. Feel free to add whatever fruit of your choice but the key ingredients are papaya and/or mangoes. Both these fruits are excellent natural stool softeners and will really help with bowel movements. Mangoes are tasty enough to its on its own so if you're not feeling a smoothie, have a few slices of mango! Try this once and you'll never stop doing it! Be sure to drink lots of water as well because without it, your body won't be able to digest all the fibers and in turn will make constipation worse. I also take probiotics and have found that its helped but again, make sure you drink lots of water!
Same here. Scarf lots of fruit, on a 500 billion Probiotic along with several over the counter products I double dose and still getting distended, with lots of gas. I did goof forgetting my probiotic around the same time I started taking the steroid. I bring a medication spreadsheet to my doctors. My gastrologist told me I'm taking too many things, wanting me off all of it except the stool softener. Since non of it was working, why not try it. The Relistor works great. I was excited I got my body back in that department. Now I've run out of samples, so it's back to the sludge shovels while I wait to hear what my insurance wants to do.
I love sardines. Ate them until I became allergic. I think my intolerance to iodine connects that dot. Warm water fish have more iodine, cold water hardly any.
sardines are an acquired taste I suppose . I started eating them reluctantly back in the days when I was fishing on a boat and had nothing else. Now I like them. Everyone keep searching for what works for you, and good luck with the efforts. They might be ongoing for a long time.

Love it! We've all had a lot of pitiful stuff to deal with. It's a wonderful gift when we can cut loose and turn it all around with funny. May we never loose our funnies!

I have a Christmas miracle to report. My wife packed my Metamucil for our trip to see friends and family. I took it out to use it and there was way too much in the baggie, or so I thought. Well it turns out all this time I have been underdosing the metamucil and then complaining about it not working! I was taking a single tsp when the dose is 1-2 TBSP. News flash, it works now! I have annual physical with doc in a week, and I am going to point out he might have asked me some time back what dose was I taking.
Also after Christmas, I felt so bad, I (perversely?) quit taking muscle relaxers and ibuprofen(was 3x daily each) because I could not feel worse. I kept taking gabapentin for nerve pain. I did not sleep well the first day or two, but now am sleeping better and pooping regularly for now. I hurt a more, and sleep is a bit more elusive, but I will trade that for regular bowels.
So, check your dosing, ask someone to look over it for you? Take some calculated risks. I wish everone some joy somewhere in 2016. Thanks to all who contribute.
