I think we are going to see developments in chair access at beaches. What a clever feature both accessibly and from a financially viable accessible tourist point of view.
That's great Lαrα! I know we have a beach not too far from here that is now fully accessible. I haven't been there yet but I think I'll be going this year for sure!

In 2010, I got really close to trying to get into the ocean when I visited my father for the last time. But there was so much to do for him that I didn't have time, and it probably saved my life. I really wasn't sure how I would get in and out of the water--planned to roll into breaking waves, easy part, and then ride wave in and grab onto sand! Yeah, I would have been a sandy mess at best, but there were hoses to wash off with and sand-riding wheelchairs to rent. However, my driver and her son were not people who could have "rescued" me in waves, and it was high tide, and she didn't want any speck of sand in her car! So.... I still dream of being in waves 1-2X week.

' ride the wave and grab onto the sand' that had me in stitches....the thought LOL !!
I live approximately 5 minutes from the beach in a car and i love to wheel about there. Not on the sand though lol and we dont have anything like i posted above.
We do have a love area to wheel about in though so its all good!

When I was a child, I did this often when bodysurfing. I would catch a big wave and ride it right up onto the beach, then dig in my toes and fingers like anchors so the returning water would not take me with it. If I wanted to continue riding waves, I would just let the water take me, and go under the breakers and come up on the other side ready to do it all over again! Then I started riding longboards, which are hardly ever used any more. And I would paddle out to the sandbar, about 0.5mi/0.8km, and ride the waves on angle, not past shore breakers. I could do this for hours of pure joy! I started kayaking around the time that shorter surfboards were coming into style, and never went back to standing. Surfing in a sea kayak is just a fabulous adventure! And it is much easier to get back to the starting points than hand-paddling a board. Question is, with not being able to control my feet and not the greatest grip in my hands, would I have been able to land myself on the beach being paralyzed? I would have needed a back-up plan, and didn't have any. So, probably better that I just helped out my dad and didn't make it into the ocean. Still think about it, though. I have so much less energy now that I most likely will never try.
It sounds like complete joy wavewolf, I can just imagine. You have to forgive my terrible sense of humour, i giggle at visual images in my mind too easily
