Lαrα, you have said it well. Moral contradiction is inevitable when people love money above all. Ethics cannot be left out of consideration in utilizing what might be scientifically possible, and the end of helping someone cannot justify means that are immoral. I cannot say that the willingness of this young Russian to make himself available for this surgery is immoral--he is knows he is facing death either way. But the body donor--who decides the morality of that? Complex issues. Notions of superiority might lead some "mad scientist" to create a superbeing of the best parts! How much of us is our physical make-up and how does that integrate with our soul or spiritual make-up? I question the integrity of the neurosurgeon in this situation.
Absolutely yes, i agree wavewolf,.... He is one brave guy and his prospects are most likely grim either way but i cant help but feel it very wrong that this has even been permitted.
Lαrα, one does have to wonder where it will end. And who will be forced to be the donor, those unwanted? Some terrorists are being reported as selling body parts from victims.
wavewolf & Lαrα, I don't think anyone will be "forced" to be the donor. I expect it to work the same way just as any other organ donor.
Do you have examples of what body parts? Wouldn't whoever is in need of these body parts have to go to a hospital or is there a "black market hospital"?

Well that's quite disturbing wavewolf and Lαrα. I think the hospitals need to do a much better job with verifying the source of the organ(s) and make sure it was acquired legally. Surely they're not trying hard enough considering how big the organ black market it.
However, ethics aside, do you think there'd ever be a black market for whole bodies for head transplants like this?!
I doubt many would risk the surgery, so if there is little demand, there is less money to be made and black market would lose interest. It is so sad to think people are so desperate that they would jeopardize their health just to have income.

Isnt this 'amazing science' going to make it a possibility already? The Hospitals that are conducting these procedures do not care where their 'source' is from, this is part of the problem.
There is a good chance that they will know that they are illegally obtained and not in fact 'donated' but they do the transplant anyways. Also Isis are murdering doctors who refuse to remove organs from people also.
Lets be honest if it was successful then why not, there will be a market for it. Complete bodies are already used, people are being murdered for the sake of having their organs removed, Is this not bad enough already?
I think that the medical research boards have a responsibility that they are not acknowledging in regards to the implications on criminal activity that is initiated by this 'progression' in science.
Well, there has been an update on this. Apparently it has been confirmed to work on rats and monkeys. I think the key idea for this whole research is how a severed spinal cord can be connected together. Since that has been somewhat figured out, it's just a matter of taking that and trying it on someone with a severed spinal cord without having to do a head transplant.
Lol I know you don't like this research that much and I get it. My mind is still boggled from the idea but I'm trying to see the good that could come out of this
This research and study is crazy but I would like them to work on repairing the cord and leaving it at that. Lets get people walking. I'll be happy at improved Bowel and bladder and reversed atrophy. I rather see them work on this.

I agree 1000% joemonte , but what I don't understand with a head transplant is are they trying to save a damaged body or a damaged head?????
I have no clue either. I believe there is much more to prioritize in research than connecting a head. They need to concentrate on connection of the spinal cord at injury level and getting function going. I looking forward to INVIVO's next update. I heard the scaffolds are doing well on Acutes. need to tackle chronics next.
