When I reconnected with my guy, he was sick a lot, common colds, sinus infections, UTI, you name it. I have discovered that although he exercised regularly, his immune system was weak. He was not taking any vitamins at the time aside from maybe a Multivitamin here and there. I suggested he takes more and we started putting a plan together for him to start a regimen.
I am a research queen as he would say, so I started researching what he can do to improve his defense systems. He is currently taking Zinc, Selenium, B vitamins - alternating B Complex and B6 and B12. We also added Fish Oil, Calcium, Magnesium, Folic Acid and Baby Aspirin for improved blood flow and artery health. In winter months, we add vitamin D as there is lack of sunlight in those months. Since he works out a lot, he adds protein shakes to his routine. It may seem like a lot, but it really isn't; my concern was overworking the liver with all these pills, so he alternates vitamins one day, minerals another, and I have also found some new gummy vitamins for adults so when he gets tired of taking pills, we go to gummies :-)
Eating right also helps and of course not smoking or drinking. He has an occasional glass of red wine, aside from that drinks water only. I think taking some small steps can help tremendously.
What do you do to help your immune system? Everybody is different and can or cannot tolerate certain supplements.
Of course, he talked this through with his General Practitioner (however it was odd to me that his Dr. never suggested any of this in the first place ) and a year later, he had not one cold or infection...knock on wood...
DJ will most likely clarify and add to this because i take over Berocca for him from here in the UK and i take myself also...
This link gives more information but basically it forms a drink that has all the vitamins and minerals that you need and will definitely help with the immune system.
theone, keep doing what you're doing, it's perfect! I take calcium, vitamin D & C, and I took multivitamins until Lαrα introduced me to Berocca. Visit the link Lαrα posted for more info on Berocca, it's. truly good stuff! I had and have a strong immune system but only deal with reoccurring UTI's. I'd be lucky if I could go a month with just one UTI. We have a thread on UTI's so feel free to check it out here if you have done so yet - inspiredsciforum.com/thread/90/constant-utis
Other than my supplement and having a healthy diet, I don't really do anything else in regards to my immune system.
Keep up the healthy eating and like Lαrα said, keep on drinking! I'm really pleased to hear he's gone a year without a cold or infection and if he keeps it up, he never will
Thank you Lαrα and DJ for suggesting Berocca. I looked at the ingridients and it seems like a great supplement, the only thing I don't like in it is added caffeine, but it should be fine if taken in the morning. Fuzzy vitamins are always better as absorption is faster and liver doesn't have to work as much to process them.
I forgot to add, DJ you might want to consider Cranberry supplement in gel pills to treat and prevent UTIs; that seems to be working with my man :-) They are concentrated and do not have the sugars that dried cranberries have, so that might be a good start.

You're welcome theone! Thanks for the info as well, Cranberry supplement in gel pills huh? I've never seen or heard of them but I'll check it out next time I go to the store! I think it would be a good idea to take a cranberry supplement on top of the D-Mannose for sure
Im going to add sleep to this post because its also very important for our wellbeing. I know many of us suffer with interrupted sleep and its not good for the body at all... inspiredsciforum.com/thread/258/sleep
We could do with another post on the forum with more info so il take a look and do some research on this

Good thread theone, Recently at a wound clinic the doctor suggested I take some supplements to help the healing of a pressure sore. He reccomended a mult-vitamin, and 500mg C
Was at a pharmany but most of the multi's seem to be marketed to the 50 to 60 yr. range. OK, I know they would have worked just fine probably, but being not quite there yet, I couldn't get my hand to reach in that direction. So I went to GNC, and got sold some potions and other things I hadn't heard of, so this is what good marketing can do.
Chewable 500mg Vitamin C MEGA MEN Joint Dietary Supplement These have so many goodies in them,I should be doing cartwheels in no time. I'll just mention some of the cool stuff. Triple fish oil? Cellulose..that doen't sound great. Crustaceans,Fish, Soybeans..eh. How about Hyaluronic Aciid? MSM(Methylsulfonyl-methane? Ok. down the hatch, but why do the have to be so large. A horse would choke on these. The triple fish oil pill's are the size football.
:welcome:Andrew
I will add the it also contains Alpha-Lipocic Acid ladylimpsalot, will see how it goes.
Glad to hear DJ, it will work well combined with other UTI precautions, I am sure. kilg0retr0ut, glad you are starting a regimen, over time you will see improvements. Any wound needs healing from the inside as well so vitamin C is a great start. I would add Zinc to that as it also promotes sore healing and is overall great for the immune system together with Selenium.
As for GNC, I personally get all my vitamins and minerals from a generic Target brand. I only get Fish Oil by a brand name Spring Valley or any other that has Enteric Coated variety (burpless) so that helps. Generics generally are the same as brand so I don't like spending extra money on GNC brand. My biggest concern with vitamins is taking multivitamin one pill vs. several separate vitamins. I found that multivitamin usually does not have enough daily dosage for certain vitamins and especially minerals (Magnesium - for nerve regeneration, reducing inflammation and heart health; Zinc - promotes immune health, healthy cell growth and maintaining prostate health in men; Selenium - antioxidant, protects cells from damage and has a role in maintaining healthy cholesterol levels), so we chose having a combo of the ones we need. Not sure either why the pills are so big sometimes either ??? but I read that it is not adviseable to break them in half because it interferes with its absorption and potency.
I know this all may be confusing; I was at the point of just giving up from too much information out there but realized that no matter how hard we've tried to eat healthy and organic, as soon as we started taking a combo of vitamins and minerals, we both have not even had even a simple cold. My man was sceptical and now, a year later he found his balance in taking vitamins and minerals alternating daily, cranberry pills, watching what he is eating, drinking only water and being physically active as much as possible.
A helpful link with lots of good simplified info is below:
kilg0retr0ut, I'm glad to hear that you've got the proper supplements to help the healing of your pressure sore! Once that's healed up you'll be good to go  Also, out of curiosity, did you make any modifications to your above post, for example, change the font size or color?
Excellent post theone! Too much information is only ever more helpful than too little You brought up some good points especially with the multivitamins. When I think about it, we probably are better off getting each supplement individually. I think I'm doing good when it comes to my immune system as I just got over my second cold in about 2 and a half years! Thanks for the link, there are some great info on that site.
