Well, the hospital social worker hasn't found a place that will take me. I asked her to check Montrose, Colorado but she can't look that far away. I lived there 2 months 2 summers ago. Long story why it was so short, but I was very happy there. Completely different atmosphere there and way of life.
So, I'm going to look for a place out there myself. Then I will figure out how to get there. Even though it will be very hard to leave my mom, since she is 79, I have to go where I will be happy. She said she wants that for me. I'm hoping Amtrak train has wheelchair accessibility and my mom can come with me to get settled. It would be a good vacation for her, too.
Karen67,Best of luck with the move Karen, and it's lovely to see you're taking such positive steps to ensure your happiness. It may be hard to leave your mum but its lovely to hear that she is being supportive Hope it all turns out for the best and please keep us updated!
Well, I just found out the rental properties aren't cheap anymore. So I have to get on computer today to look for nursing facilities.
Crap. Will the nursing facilities be close to where you live now?
No. I was talking about trying to move to Colorado which is on the other side of the country. I have since decided that moving there is impractical.
The hospital social worker told me that they were going to start looking for assisted living facilities since they haven't had any luck with nursing homes. That is the type of facility I wanted to go to from the start. I hope they find one.

Ahh ok I see. Well good luck Karen67, I really hope they find you a good assisted living facility asap so that you can finally get on with life!
Well, as I suspected from the beginning, I'm going to a s***hole. It's in a the worst neighborhood in the city, all drugs and crime. It has a terrible reputation. It probably reeks of urine. Some rooms have 3 beds instead of just 2. It's so old, it wasn't wired for TVs in the bedrooms. I just bought a laptop, so I have to find out if it has WiFi. If not, guess I will return computer. I will probably just swallow a bottle of pills.

Perhaps you can stay there until a spot elsewhere is open?
The Problem is all I have is Medicaid which doesn't pay much. And I just found out that the Medicaid provider I chose is part of ObamaCare which sucks. Now I'm looking into changing my provider.

Ahh I see. I'm not sure how all that works over there but hopefully you can find a provider that pays more.
Sorry I haven't been on here in a LONG time. Been very depressed. I ended up going from the hospital to a hotel. Since my mom was basically staying at the hotel with me all of the time, my father relented and let me come back home. I am getting home health wound care, catheter changes, and personal care services. Now I have to find the motivation to work on getting stronger and bowel trained (which I have no idea how to do) so I can get my own place instead of ending up in a nursing home.
Karen: www.gciinc.org (in Greeley, northern Colorado) has housing (accessible apartment complexes) and home health care for residents, as well as PT, OT, good relationships with area rehab facilities (Craig, NCRH). I don’t know where you live now, but earlier you expressed interest in Colorado, and GCI would probably be a good place to start. Down in grand junction (includes montrose) there is www.cfigj.org - I don’t know anything about them, but can tell you the medical care is not as good as it is in NoCo, especially for SCI, and services are very challenging to coordinate in that area.
