About fifteen or sixteen years ago I had been on SSA disability . So I got off of disability and tried to go back to work again. I was doing pretty good for awhile. I had been working in a machine shop as a CNC MACHINIST and set up man and a CNC operator. It was a relatively new shop and the had just gotten a new contract with a giant agricultural and heavy equipment manufacturer . A lot of the employees there were very young and had only some experience romantic a job training school . Most of them couldn't vendors figure a simple math problem without the use of a calculator . All had started here before me. We were supposed to be working twelve hours shifts, three days on and four days off, then four days on and three days off. But after a short time I was working thirteen also straight , and then a day off . Then this went on for about six months straight . I'm not saying that all of the young guys were lazy but many were. One day after a production eating the owner of the ompany came up to me and .asked me if I could step up my production a bit more so as to show these younger guys that they could only a lot more. Now we were making giant flywheels made out of castings of grey iron . They weighed over a hundred pounds a piece . So when he asked me to step up my production I did. Now I was already running more parts per shift by a large margin. So I started unhinged even more . Now I'm doubling everyone else's output. So a few nights later I'm running , the machines were humming , I go to take a part out of the machine and I hear a loud Crack, the guy next to me on the next set of machines yelled, what the hell was that. Now I don't know if anyone here has ever been in a shop where grey iron is being cut at high speed but, it is a very noisy and screeching place. Probably almost as loud as a passenger jet. Anyway I was standing there holding this hundred pound art , and the noise was my right shoulder. I had severely damaged my rotator cuff and ripped the super Spanada muscle in half, plus my bicep had ripped away from my shoulder and was positioned down inside my are by three crook of my elbow. My arm was on fire instantly . I knew something very bad had happened . My coworker an into the office and brought out the plant manager. They took me to the hospital , did the MRI of my shoulder ,told me that I needed immediate surgery to repair all the damage that had been done to my shoulder . The surgeon said it was the most severe shoulder surgery hat he had ever done. Three months later as I'm almost finished going through my physical therapy the repair tore again. So after another tree months of rehab , I'm finally back to work on light duty. Now I worked in a one million square foot building. My boss don't Ike how any of what had happened and had told all of my coworkers that they should taunt me and try to get me to quit as I was raising all of their insurance rates . And my light duty work was scrubbing the walls of the building from the floor to see high as I could reach. So this went on until my next Dr's appointment . I told the Dr that my injured arm was really doing well out my other arm had been killing me . I couldn't sleep, sometimes the was like my arm needed help to come down from over my head, like it was getting stuck. So the Dr had me go and have another MRI on my second shoulder. And sure enough , the companies so called light duty had actually torn my good shoulder up. So in my bosses rush to get more production out of the guys that I worked with , he had really messed me up.
I came to the realization right there. That never again would I overwork my body to that extent . To this day, neither of my shoulders are the same. The range of motion is only about seventy-five percent . I was poorly treated by the company and my workman's compensation was diddly squat.
This I guess was me venting, giving a bit more background noise where I'm coming from and here I've been . Thanks for giving someplace to go and get some of this out. If I were to see the owner of that company to day, I would Crack him over the head with my cane . Maybe just a few times.
