On my resume it says that I'm re-entering the work force following a SCI... in my cover letters it states that I'm a paraplegic.
Ok I see. Do you think it'd help if you said that you're re-entering the work force after sustaining a serious injury and then just leave out the fact that you're a para in your cover letter?
Aha! Lynjo, if you use DJ's idea, and it works, please let us know. I like the idea of just calling it a "serious injury" rather than paraplegia. Although, again, something about this makes me want to laugh out loud,...but laugh regarding MY situation, not necesarily yours. The interviewer (in my case) might be thinking, "Well, when she gets here, maybe I'll ask about this 'serious injury' of hers". And then I roll in, not just in a wheelchair and paralyzed, but missing a leg above-the-knee, which 'kicks'...looking like something really sad from "Cats". My 'serious injury' is pretty self-explanatory.
Oh ok that makes sense. Did you just say that you were off for 6 years due to disability or did you mention that you're now a paraplegic?

lynzjo, how did things go? I personally would be open an honest from the start. Easy to say, I know. I'm no saint by any means, but although it may take longer, you will have somewhere you'll feel comfortable. I believe there are still people that will look past a disability and see the talent in a person. I give you great credit for going for it, not many appreciate the extra work it takes.
