Do any tetraplegics here have any special equipment to help them paint? Fed up with conventional equipment, I eventually had an easel and palette made to my specifications (been using it for fifteen years now). It works on electric motors. My palette has a section which holds brushes of all sizes. I had a special tool made up to help me hold the brushes (another one of my inventions) but now I just strap them to my hands with Velcro-elasticated straps. Once the strap is bound around my hands, I can easily switch from one brush to another without changing or having the strap altered (not to be confused with bondage). Total independence. I just need somebody to put my paints out and clean the palette and brushes afterwards (they are cleaned by me in turpentine or white spirits but they need washing and drying). Perfectly happy to share my experiences with anybody who paints with serious intensity.

Me too. I did some rehab at Mary Freebed in G.R. Mi. They accept artwork from former patients, I spent much of my time there wandering looking at all the art. I have a little art background, but was blown away. One of my favorites painted with a brush in her teeth, if there's art in a person, it'll find a way out.
The website’s a bit crap. I built it with Microsoft FrontPage and if you look at it with anything other than Windows Explorer, like an Apple Mac, it’s all over the place. It’s all over the place anyway. I’m not really a website designer or builder. I have trouble updating the site. I have so many pictures to take photographs of and upload, it sometimes feels overwhelming. Of course I have to get other people to help me take photographs. I’m dependent on others to a certain extent.
MikeQ, that's wonderful work that you do! I'm very impressed. And so many pieces. You are a very hard worker. I've saved your site to my tablet.
I don't have any special equipment ideas. I will be learning from YOU. It's difficult enough for a paraplegic like me. I have a Minor in Studio Art, which I got before my SCI. As with you, I am dependent on others to take photos for me.
I'm really touched by people's comments. Thank you so much. It means a lot. I paint in isolation and I don't know any other artists. I'm always happy to chat to anybody on Skype about art and disability. It's so hard to paint at times but the desire to do it never diminishes. I'm in the shed every day, no matter what the weather. The truth of the matter is I have always been a little bit embarrassed to show my stuff on account of the fact that what I do in a couple of weeks an decent artist without a disability could paint in a few days and much better.
Hey Mike, You have some serious talent man. I checked out your website. I am really impressed with your portraits man. If you want some help to build a new website, PM me. Younggun that is an amazing offer. Are you serious? I’ll paint your portrait. Yes, I’ll paint your portrait if you help me with my website. What a fantastic trade. You have made my day. Thank you so much, and thank you for your kind comments.

After you two get that project accomplished, please let me in on the fun? I've been wanting to paint, but have no one around to help with websites or marketing. I am super-slow, even when able-bodied. My avatar is a detail from a painting I did about 9 years ago, in community college.
