Well firstly happy new year to everyone, I hope you all had a really fantastic Christmas and New year. We sure did!
After some neuro pain issues early in December the boy only got better and better, by his own choice he has been doing an extra hour on his FES everyday during his reading time, there haven't been any notable medical issues surrounding his SCI.
For Christmas we spent on a friends boat, both boys had a really great time, Carsie boy managed to get around just fine, and seemed to be right at home on the boat, during the week between Christmas and New year we went trail riding for the first time Carsten used his hand cycle for an over night ride/camp, we managed to carry all the supplies we need without making any special arrangements than we would before his injury, it was a nice ride we took 3 days over a number of different trails, and his favourite swimming in the river!
Now we're looking down the barrel of a new school year, which starts next week, for the last couple of weeks we've had kids coming and going out of our house, I've made a kids club house in the garage which has been a real hit, which has changed Carsten's social construct a bit because it brings the other kids to him, he has direct access to the pool out of the garage, I've spent a small bomb on pool toys but it's worked out really well!
Now he is more comfortable with his hand cycle he is more happy roaming around the neighbourhood either with his brother or independently away from the security of home and his wheelchair. I've been toying with the idea of allowing him to ride to school with his brother and taking his chair down in the car then reverse in the afternoon, it seems like a good idea to allow him to stretch his legs a little (arms in this case).
Looking at what I have just typed, almost doesn't look relevant since it's mostly devoid of medical info, but it has been a reflection of life recently.
