Hi all! Two years ago I was in a small accident, and I started to develop neurological symptoms. The doctors found after some time that I had tethered cord from tight filumterminale. Something I was born with, but that has not given me any problem during 40 years, until the accident. It is known if one read scientific papers that tethered cord can start to give symptoms after accidents. I sent a claim to my insurance company covering accidents, but my claim was not accepted, I was told that since this is something I was born with I can not get any compensations from my insurance. I live in Sweden and the knowledge about this syndrome is low and I have not met more than I person with the same history as me. Is there anyone here that has been successful in their claim towards insurance companies for neurological damage from tethered cord discovered after accidents?
Do you know the exact level of your conus medullaris? Where does it end? (T12, L1, L2, L3 etc.) Tight filumterminale can be treated surgically. But if your damage is caused by trauma (e.g. contusion), surgery makes no sense probably.

maria, I don't have any solid advice, but if the accident brought out the symptoms of something dormant, I still say it was the accident that caused the conditions.
Seems our bodies are very complicated even for those who are in the medical field.Even they can't agree with each other on how to treat. Another great article vintage!!! It seems that I forgot to tell you , Big welcome to the forum Maria !!
It is the job of insurance companies to get out of claims in any way they can think of. Gather all the research you can find associating tethered cord symptom onset with accidents as you appeal this decision often, loudly, and with great confidence. How is it known you were born with this? Is it documented or assumed?
It is also helpful if your insurance is paid by your employer to find an ally within your company. My own appeal for insurance payment for my wheelchair was denied for 2 years until the company nurse liason to the insurance company gave them a single call on my behalf.
