I saw this informational video by Spinal Cord Injuries Australia so I thought I'd share it. There are some good tips in the video so be sure to check it out
I remember practicing wheelies (balancing lol) with my OT every day at the spinal unit..i was pretty rubbish but i got better. I always felt like i was going to tip back,...the only time i ended up on the floor was after a night out. I came home on my crutches in a taxi...then went to get into my chair and missed it..haha ...but it hurt!
Very good video DJ, the fella in the video is much braver than me there is no way I would attempt an esccolator or steps the way he does. Filmed at Bondi Beach, great spot.
Butiki, I understand your fear. It's a very nice location now that you've mentioned it! How far is that from you? Lαrα I learned most of that at rehab as an out patient. I could do wheelies and up to 4 inch curbs and different inclines but none of that escalator/stairs stuff. I don't really practice the skills I've learned as I don't really use them but maybe I'll practice them next summer! jerseyboy I know jesse can do almost everything in that video!
DJ Bondi is not far from me, about 3000 kms approximately. I live right in the middle of Australia and Bondi is on Sydney. I can do most wheelchair skills but escalators and stairs are things I don't do, anyway we don't even have an escalator in my town, but going bush all the time I think I do things most rehabs haven't even thought of
Butiki..i guess you adapt to your environment and find ways to get about. It must have been hard at first because i know how difficult i have found it at times getting around at my stables over bumpy and grassy terrain.
Meh escalators arn't that hard, just intimidating. Im sure you could easilly pull it off Butiki. All you do it hold on for dear life. The bush and offroading is much more challenging.
Hi Jesse, if we had an esccolator here I would try just to prove to myself that I can do it , but we don't have one  As for getting around out bush I just do what I have to do if I want to get to a particular spot, but I do see that my wheelchair skills improve weekly, our new wheelchair OT can't believe what I can do in such a short period of time after my injury.

It just proves what a bit of determination can achieve!

Butiki, I was going to say exactly what Lαrα said. I'm glad to hear you're improving quickly though, keep it up!

Thats good man. Keep working on it and it will become easier and easier. Since you say your around bush you might have access to 4 wheelers. I would highly recommend you take one for a rip if possible. Thats definately one of my favourite ways to get my adrenaline fix these days!
Yeah man there expensive though. You should see if you could just rent one somewhere and let someone else cruise with you on the back. It would still be fun and you could get a feel for what its like DJ
