Having whetted my appetite for off-roading (i.e. going for a roll on the beach or on a trail), I found this all terrain wheelchair. TJ posted something about a while back, but I think that was before it was in production in the states. Check out this video.
I like the chair because it still gives a good workout, and it's so simple and fixable (no batteries etc.).
Here's their website: www.gogrit.us/ It's affordable ($2995) and I can rent one for a week. (I'm so excited!!!)
I just think this is such a great concept. Here's another video if you're interested, explaining the development and use in third world countries. Absolutely lovely! What do you think?
I like it, especially the manual push handles, not like most wheelchairs grips to move forward. with my limited left hand grip strength and movement I believe this wo9uld work for me.
Looks like a great idea. Thanks for sharing Sam. My problem is that I have had three shoulder surgeries. I may need an electric powered chair soon. I'm not getting any younger. Lol , and jaylock.
I called and talked to them this morning and have just put down a down payment for the 30 day trial. Can't believe I did it but I'm excited. I'll let you know how it goes!

It probably would, Sam. I'll let you know how it goes.

That is awesome Jay locksmith, I will be waiting to get updates on your new wheels after they arrive.
Yesterday was the first chance I've had to really try out the new GRIT Freedom Chair. Review to come but it was an awesome day. Here's the video. Day 1 - at the beach!
Thanks sam, and kilg0retr0ut, It was a much more emotional adventure than I thought it would be, but we had such a great time. Yesterday I practiced for an hour around the neighborhood and realized the tyre pressure was way too low, which was making me work harder. I also realize that we probably picked one of the worst beaches to try for the first time. You can't tell in the video but those sand dunes are really steep. I'm now scoping out other places near by that are flatter and with packed sand. Looking online we found possibilities and will try those out next week once the tourists die down (we just stay home on the 4th of July weekend). I can't say enough good stuff about this chair. When I have more time I'll post a full review if people are interested.
I'm so happy for you, Jaylock" My right shoulder works all right, but it is delicate due to a 'slip and fall' injury years ago. I guess I would just have to give it a try to see if I could pedal the chair.

My left upper arm and shoulder are a lot weaker than my right, and my scoliosis has me leaning so it's a trick to stay balanced and push. There's not too much more effort to push the handles than regular wheelchair rims, but I'm using a different set of muscles so it's hard to get used to. I think if you have enough strength to push a regular chair you could do this. Wish you lived next door, vintage, you could have a go. That was also very tough wet gravel to get through on the video. Grass is quite easy.
