I guess I'll be semi-off my left ankle for awhile, new sore. Same ankle I just healed one on. This one hasn't opened yet, but I can feel and see the hole right about where my left ankle is. Yeeha.
I did learn from my last one. Had an aggressive poditrist use this stuff called primatrix, not sure of the spelling, some kind of cow skin. Really messed up my ankle and it was so close to being healed. Never looked as good as it did at that point. Looks like it's rotten now.
You have been through alot wavewolf, You and others here are very strong. I hope I can learn to be as composed and enduring as you folks who are dealing with so much more than me, but right now I'm just pissed off.
Oh damn kilg0retr0ut..sounds like that podiatrist messed up a little but hey its all relative...your quite entitled to feel that way.. Be sure in the knowledge that every single person on here, if they are totally honest, has felt exactly the same.
I hope the skin issues resolve for you soon, i truly do.
kilg0retr0ut, Really hope you can get this healed before infection gets in. Do you wear something to protect it at night? I had (real) lambskin booties I wore (with breathable, washable socks under) that prevented sores and helped one on ankle to heal by cushioning. It allowed air to circulate.

Yogurt or Greek yogurt. Cobani plain has 23 grams per serving. I eat it every day for the last 35 plus years and being spinal cord injured since 1987 I have not have one pressure sore. Also whey protein is another good source of protein and fish.

My left foot is looking pretty sad. Looking for new braces. I remember a post by wavewolf where see had found some good ones. I'll check and see if I can find it. As much as I like this guy I need to find someone outside the local area. I've gone through three pair in five years, may have issues getting another pair so soon. I was told you may only be allowed one pair per five years on Medicaid which seems a bit unfair to me.

Here is what I use, and I love it!!! Broke three of them when the product was still in "beta" (testing) phase, and they were replaced free--lots of questions asked so they could improve product. trulife.com/all-products/orthotics/ankle-foot-orthoses/carbon-composite-afo/matrix-max-1 There are several models for differing conditions, so hopefully one will work. These are so lightweight and comfortable to wear, even in hot weather. Pad on front of leg is not bothersome.
Company site will give you leads as to where you might go. My excellent prosthetist is largely responsible for my getting this AFO and also for fitting the orthotic that must go with it. Orthotic fits over the support plate, and shoes must accommodate these inserts. My shoes are athletic shoes with insoles removed and these inserted. There is a KAFO version of this, also. I started with a different KAFO because Trulife wasn't making this version yet.
I wear compression hose, moderate 15-20, to minimize swelling in feet and legs, plus synthetic socks to absorb sweat. Great value at Keeping them clean is important to minimize chance of infection or skin shearing. These also avoid any irritation from AFO straps, which are adjustable and very comfortable for me--good design.

Hi gang. I just joined and this is my first post. I am a c5 quad from a diving accident at age 19 in 1971. Yep, I have been a quad for 43 years. For the first 30 years or so I had not a single pressure sore. Since then it has been non-stop. I have had a sore on my buttock for over 10 years. We dress it, sit on a Roho, and continue on. It never changes, no better, no worse. I haven't stayed in bed because I am alone most of the time and simply can't do it. I figure as long as I can avoid infections, I will be ok. I imagine I will take this sore with me to the end. I am 62 now; anyone have a clue how many more years I might have? My best to everyone. Larry
