No, no, no! Sam, (she said, stamping her little foot). Because the oregano oil would burn the living daylights out of the skin on you lips, mouth, or eyes. But down in your tummy, it is welcome as the flowers in May.
Yes, DJ, this is a very good thread. It is a revelation to see how other people cope with eating. Vintage, I thought marshmallow root was the key to digestive problems? Am I wrong? .
Yes, Mikeq, marshmallow root is for digestive problems. It coats an irritated digestive tract with a thin film of mucous. And it is wonderful (as a tea) for UTI's. But it doesn't 'digest' for us.
Thanks for your thoughts guys. I'm glad I shared with you, though I'm a bit embarrassed. good bunch, you are Wanted to Mention another thing on the topic (sorry if I sound like I'm whingeing). Fairly often I get very dizzy after eating and start feeling faint. I drink water and lean forward until it passes. it's difficult to talk then and if it lasts a while I get cold. does anyone else experienced this? It's a bit of a Catch-22 though because I don't eat then my body has got no fuel and I get a similar thing. If I'm not really thinking about my diet planning meals ahead I end up eating pretty much vegetarian(lots of lentils, pulses, fruit and grains), which is fine but I tend to get anaemic. I don't think am getting the right iron without consciously eating red meat – I keep meaning to do some research. mikeq, your portions sound like mine and your diet very healthy. Do you give consideration to what time you eat dinner, or just when you get hungry? I have a "long morning" in the bathroom every other day, so eat later the first day in order to stay comfortable and earlier the next to give my body time to digest everything in time for the morning.
Hello Zambi. You are suffering from Postprandial hypotension, which is to say your blood pressure drops dramatically after eating. You may well think about buying a blood pressure gauge, with a cuff that fits around your arm rather than your wrist (they are more accurate). The faintness or dizziness that you feel is the dramatic drop in blood pressure. I know all this because I suffer from exactly the same thing. After eating my blood pressure plummets. In fact, even chewing food without swallowing it, my blood pressure drops. It's all to do with the flow of blood into the intestines. It can be dangerous so you really have to be aware of what's happening. I wear an elastic compression band around my waist (I'm not sure which hospital you belong to but you should mention this to your consultant or your GP. Ask them for a compression band). Sometimes, in the evenings, if I have an Apple, my blood pressure drops to around 62/40. It's really bad in the morning with the diastolic in the 50s. Normally, during the day, it's around 95/55, which suits me fine. I think you ought to start eating fish or meat. It is important to get the proteins your body needs to repair itself. Yes, you can get protein from pulses and nuts, but fish is a rich source of proteins and other vitamins and essential oils. I eat at regular intervals. My breakfast at around 8 o'clock. A small lunch at around 12:30 PM. My main meal at around 5 PM. In the evening I'll eat fruit.
Vintage, thank you for your input and for your advice. I had a gastroscope recently which showed I had information of the stomach lining, something they called "gastritis". It causes excessive wind and much burping. Does this mean I should take marshmallow root to soothe my stomach? What would you do? I gratefully respect your advice.
Monarch, I'm delighted to find another user of essential oils, and even more so, another user who puts drops of food grade essential oils in a capsule and then takes it orally. Yes, delighted to find you. With that pesky "lump in my stomach" that I mentioned, I'd started trying to cure it with a (homemade) capsule of oregano oil. That was good, no doubt, but the lump was large, and refused to be digested. Next (an hour or so later, after the oregano oil), I took a capsuleful of peppermint oil - for the nausea, which was almost unbearable. I was surviving, but you can imagine my distress. Only later, the next day, probably, did I take the TerraZyme,...which did the trick. The reason I hadn't taken the TerraZyme sooner was because, supposedly, you should take it "with food", or at the end of the meal. But this story reminds us that we should listen to our bodies. There was undigested food in my stomach, for far too long, hence the need for digestive enzymes.
Mikeq, a capsule containing a few drops of oregano oil would do you more good than you can possibly imagine. You would definitely need the help and agreement of your dear wife for this though, as the pouring of those few drops of the (rather expensive) food grade oregano oil into half of an opened empty capsule, and putting the other half back onto the capsule is an artform in itself.
please excuse my ignorance at these essential oils and vintage what about just dropping a few drops in water or drink instead of putting in capsules?
I've tried dropping a few oils in water in the past, it was OK with peppermint, but with the bad tasting ones or the strong ones it was intense
I divided a solitary garden pea into thirds this morning. One third for breakfast, the second for lunch and the last one for my dinner this evening. Sprinkled with salt of course for flavouring, chewed into a fine paste, then rolled around the mouth several times before swallowing. Most satisfying.
I use essential oils everyday. I was getting uti's back to back in the hospital and still once got out. Got back into the oils and have not had one since. There are many great oils that help in all ways of life. Like vintage said about the stomach bugs living in your stomach. They can be cleaned out. Many are too strong for your pallet but work wonderfully together in your stomach naturally
Dear Lavender, good to see you again. You've had the same experience I have, in that, hospitals (and from my own experience, also nursing homes) cut us off from our beloved and useful essential oils, resulting in illness that we could have cured had we been at home. I've wanted to share this knowledge with others, so they can "save thenselves" from much misery, as I have done. I'm so glad we have this place where we can let others know about food grade essential oils. Also, Lavender, last week, the TerraZyme you sent me worked to digest a lump of food that sat in my stomach for a day and a half, ending a waking nightmare. Great product.
Glad to hear that vintage. I try not to push the oils, since many folks think meds work better or are afraid to try them.I use the terrazyme every night, for over all intestinal comfort and digestion.
Goodness gracious me, sounds like a regular alternative therapy pharmacy going on here. Can I add my address to the mailing list please? Also, vintage, Mrs Q is sitting on the settee and flicking through her iPad, doing ancestry searches. Yesterday afternoon she cooked me a beautiful piece of white fish, which I had with potatoes and peas. Now you have to be careful when you mention "toad in the hole". It has many connotations.
Strumming imaginary guitar and singing
Oh the way she buttered her bread and the way she swung her rolls had me drooling in my sausage and mash and stuffing my toad into its hole
Sam, the trick is to find "food grade" essential oils, not just aroma therapy grade, which are everywhere and Not safe for ingestion. I buy my "food grade" essential oils only from Do Terra (and, yes, I get these fthrough Lavender), or else from drclarkstore.com online. Both of these sources are excellent.
On a different subject, ...Mikeq, I'm mortified. This was the extent of my information. It looked delicious and the name sounded typically British. :/ "Toad in the hole or sausage toad is a traditional English dish consisting of sausages in Yorkshire pudding batter, usually served with onion gravy and vegetables. Toad in the hole - Wikipedia"
And I seem to be getting myself even deeper in trouble, the more I talk. Where's an emoji for putting my hand over my mouth?
