In researching different solutions for bowel/gut problems (not necessarily SCI related) I found that zinc, and especially something called Zinc Carnosine is very helpful for all kinds of gut issues, including parasites, inflammation, constipation, leaky gut, and GERD. Apparently, Zinc Carnosine is prescribed by doctors in Japan for IBS, stomach ulcers and GERD. Because of recent bowel issues and because deficiency in it is also a symptom of Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, I started taking zinc a few days ago believe it had a very positive effect on my mood at least (one of the things it's cited to be good for). I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with zinc carnosine, though. It sounds as though it might be more effective than zinc alone, but I wonder about side effects.
Hi Jaylock. Lovely to see you posting again. We missed you while you were "indisposed". I was interested in your post as although I don't have an SCI (my husband does so I take liberties and stick my nose in sometimes) I do have some gut and intestinal issues. Looks interesting and I have ordered some zinc carnosine. I'll report back. So thanks for the info. I found this if it's of any interest - a "proper" bit of research which draws some pretty positive conclusions. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1856764/
