So wondering if my knees are in a brace of some sort would I be able to stand and dance with my son at his wedding. I know he would need to hold me up. I am am a t 11 12 para. I do have hip movement .
Just wondering if it is possible or if its been done.
I recall one or 2 examples of people who have done that. One was a dad, one the bride. Only you can answer and only by practicing. Does your son live close enough to try it together? If not the idea gets chancy as your partner needs confidence in his ability to keep you both safe. Are you able to stand on your own at a walker? If not my own opinion is it's more trouble than it's worth- the expense, time and PT involved getting a well-fitted brace, etc, etc. Just think it through until you are satisfied.
I have danced with a sturdy guy who felt confident keeping me up, but I'm also incomplete and can use a walker. It was really fun. In 10 years I only found that one person willing to give it a go. My own guy does not feel steady enough.
I step in the water, but the water has moved on...
KAFO's would work. Kafo stands for knee, ankle, foot orthotic. I tried kafo's at Craig Hospital several years ago. If you have the hip function you should be able to stand on legs that are locked straight. I just tried kafo's the one time. I have since regained enough knee function to walk with afo's. Hope you have a great time at your son's wedding.
I did order some off Amazon, all I need to do is stand for the dance. My plan is to surprise him. By working with my husband. Also got my first grand child on the way next month, other son.

Hi Lavender,
What a thoughtful idea! I just wanted to share that I recently got married, and the greatest gift of all was just having my Dad there. He couldn't stay the whole night, and he wasn't able to dance with me, but just having him there for a few hours meant the world to me. Whatever you choose to do, your son will be thrilled that you are there to celebrate his special day with him.
Well I did it not sure how to post the video, I was able to dance with both of my sons to the song, do I make you proud, my son chose it for our dance. I have never seen so many people crying . It was amazing. I just used regular leg braces and then locked them and my son stood me up. Danced with my husband also for our 35 wedding anniversary, which is today. To ed sheerhan song thinking out loud words were so perfect.
