Hi! I visit site often but never posted much. My husband is a C6 quad for nearly 25 years. His bowel program has always “ruled” his life. Recently he underwent a surgery to repair a anal fistula, in which we need up with us complications( sitting in hospital room tonight still trying to recover, night 15 in hospital) I think we are at the point of thinking the colostomy is the right answer for a lot of reasons. Any info would be great! How long was surgery? Do you still take stool softener? Help please?!
my advice is definitely go for it. I haven't looked back since having mine ten years ago. Stool softeners depend on diet. If you are eating plenty of fibre and fruit then you probably won't need it. Some people take laxatives regularly, even though they have a colostomy. No longer will your husband's bowel regime rule his life. There is nothing worse than going into a general hospital and having to have your bowels emptied by people who have no idea of spinal injury and what is required. Get the colostomy done. That's my advice.
