This news article landed in my inbox via a Facebook group. Thought it might be of interest. I remember reading a lot about 4AP a while ago with mixed results. This new development sounds very promising.
Extract:
"For the first time, 4-aminopyridine-3-methanol is shown to restore function in chronic spinal cord injuries," he says. "It also reduces neuropathic pain to a greater degree than 4-AP.
"Because persistent chronic pain is a serious problem among patients with spinal cord injuries, 4-aminopyridine-3-methanol could potentially be used to reduce pain, independent of any motor benefits."
Interesting. I don't know how to determine if one's spinal chord damage is caused by myelin damage or another mechanism. Also don't see info on how the drug is administered.
I'm all in for treatments that may increase function as long as there is ZERO chance of degrading my current status (i.e. no additional loss of function, no increase in nerve pain, no increase in spasm).

This is a very interesting read and could very well be the largest advancement in spinal cord that I have ever heard of anywhere. Professor Reggie Edgerton has been working on pain with SCI since 1960 and the device is in FDA now with Professor Edgerton pushing for a fast track to get it out to rehabs and clinics.

I would like to be healed as much as anyone else. But there is part of this article that isn’t clear... “She told me that it’s possible the conventional wisdom is wrong — that there’s no such thing as a complete injury. There seems to exist in every cord, no matter how badly damaged, a way to restore some connection.” www.newmobility.com/2018/07/non-surgical-recovery-of-function/
I had a paralyzed friend many years ago, long before I was paralyzed, who, due to a car accident, was actually missing a chunk of his spinal column,...gone. So, I don’t see how the researcher can say that “there’s no such thing as a complete injury”.

Wow - thanks for this. Really interesting. Quality of life is much improved by better hand function. Peter has some function in all limbs but misses full function in his hands more than his legs.

I'm 5 years post and I still reach for things so yea any hope is good. If I read an article in the journals like this using 110 volt I would bridge my break with TENS pads and plug it into the wall. I chased the article and found a video of one of the test subjects opening a water bottle and as awkward as it looked its still very impressive, I'm trying to find it again and I'll post it here. this is an article about the same Dr. about voluntary leg movement from a complete quad. newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/completely-paralyzed-man-voluntarily-moves-his-legs-ucla-scientists-report

Would they take you if you went off the baclofen? Would you be able to go off the baclofen?
I haven't called to ask them but I don't think I can come Baclofen.
