Hi I’m about to buy a Roho air cushion because I have a weakened area and I’m worrying about using a sliding/transfer board, can anyone tell me if the cushion is ok to use a board for transferring? Thanks
rossi17, I use a Roho cushion. However, I have only used it with a sliding board on a few occassions. Every morning and every night, I get in and out of bed without using a sliding board. I love my Rojo cushion. It keeps me from getting pressure sores, which I often had before getting it.
Hi, Yeah I have to use a sliding board to transfer as I’m a t5 injury I cannot stand, I’m worried with the air in the Roho cushion might not withstand the board pressing down on it as it takes my weight. Thanks
The Roho cushion comes with a nylon, water permeable, zippered cover. I made a heavy vinyl cushion cover for my Roho cushion that I use in addition to the orginal equipment. It’s just a simple, large, vinyl “envelope”, with extra vinyl at the back of the cushion which “folds under”. I glued the edges together with superglue, rather than sewing it. I think that, with an additional vinyl cover, your Roho would hold up to the gouging from the sliding board. I did, however, give away a precious kitten, because her little claws were going to cost me dearly in Roho cushions.
As to the board combined with your weight damaging the cushion,...I don’t know. Are you especially heavy? Please let us know what happens as you experiment.
Hi again, Thanks for the replies, Yes mine comes with the protection cover my worry is not so much transferring from the cushion to say my bed it’s from my bed to the Roho cushion on my wheelchair, I’m 12stone/165lb and I’m thinking as I transfer the end of the transfer board might bury into the air so I don’t finish sitting on the cushion properly. The end of the day I’ve brought it now so when it arrives I’ve just got to try it. Thanks
I scoot diagonal in my chair, then fall backwards onto my bed, rather than using a sliding board. [rewind] I tie my wheelchair to my bedframe every night before going to bed. I use one tie to the front and another to the back wheel. Once in bed on my back, I grab the rail on the far side of my bed and do a sort of “pull up”, dragging my body further onto the bed. I feel safer doing this than using a sliding board. I don’t want to post a video of myself doing this. But someday, maybe I will have my aide film me, then draw some cartoon “stills” of my process.
I have always worried about using a sliding board with a Roho cushion. Would it damage the cushion? I've never tried. I can recommend a Roho cushion, though. It gives amazing pressure relief. I've never had a pressure sore and I've always used Roho cushions.
rossi17, I have a rojo on both my power chair and manual chair. I am a c6/7 quadriplegic. I use a slide board on my cushions all day for every transfer getting in and out of bed, chairs, cars, etc. ) not once have I had an issue. By the way I’m 6’2 and weigh 260

I would never sit on anything else, I know several paras that use them with no issues
Ever feel like dying, ever feel alone, Ever feel like cryin', lost child in a store, Ever feel life pushing, shoving you away, Ever feel like breaking down, funeral in the rain Feel like slipping away
