I've been getting a lot of burning sensation on my toes recently and it's starting to bug me! It's definitely neurological pain but it's not at the point where I'd want to start taking meds. I know a lot of you have nerve pain but is there anything that you guys do to prevent it without taking meds?
I've already read this thread which has got lots of great info but I'm looking for nerve pain specifically. I was on gabapentin whilst in rehab but got off it as I never had nerve pain back then. Like I've said, it's not really bad but I don't want it to get any worse.
Its a difficult one DJ....my feet to burn more when my feet get too warm...which i why i hate wearing shoes. They heat my feet up and my brain starts to tell me that my feet are on fire...because of the damaged signals....
It shouldnt get worse now though...i found that mine has stayed at the same rate now...just so annoying sometimes and mins is also worse in summer than in winter.
Any increase in the temperature and my brain goes into...'watch out for your feet mode' lol
Keeping your mind occupied helps but i know you are good at this, also raising my legs helps........ .....
Lαrα, coming to think of it, I do wear my shoes all day while in just sat here in my chair at home. I really don't need to as I'm not going anywhere or doing anything. I'll try wearing no shoes on days like today and see how I feel!

Good idea! Def try it DJ, im sure you will feel a difference
Sorry DJ, but I have no advice for you, I just try to ignore the funny feelings I get in my feet, it's a very tight kind of feeling with constant tingling, not painful, but uncomfortable. I don't know if the Lyrica helped because I didn't stay on it long enough to find out, I would rather put up with the funny feeling than feel like crap all the time.
Oh the pain is so bad this week! My toes have been burning like crazy
Its bad that you are suffering with this... i have been looking at some info that may help a little...i know you looked at the info here on nerve pain alternative treatments..which i will link in case someone else has the same issue... Inspired Nerve Pain Alternative Treatement
I do hope it improves...il post up some other nerve related treatments later
The longer you have it the more intense the "funny feeling" becomes.See how long you can take it.
Since we ae talking about funny feelings, for the last two days I've tried to sleep in but I take my Medication when I wake up so not taking it on time has got me some of them funny burning toes that feels like they are being loped off with pruning shears. I take the meds, they chill in less than an hour. I'm proud of the self righteous tough folks that can handle them funny feelings, I was one for two years. Most of our conditions are not improving, face it it's going to get worse down the road. Hang as long as you can, the meds are no fun.
Butiki, I try my best to ignore/distract myself and it helps but only to an extent. Thanks for the info Lαrα, there's lots of great information to be read

Hey DJ, these pains started for me shortly after I left the hospital after my surgery. If they are the same, my doctor told me that it was progress. My nerves were trying to function. I picture that old hand reaching out of the grave on horror shows. That hand or part of the body may want to live, but it will never be part of anything human again!
I use Alpha Lipoic Acid for the nerve pain. It has fewer side affects than Gabapentin and Lyrica and is a lot more natural. You can google it with diabetic nerve pain.

Good points ladylimpsalot..i mentioned alpha lipoic acid to DJ earlier..i know he said he was going to take a look at some alternatives.
Sometimes its about trying to find what works for you...eventually we becomes our own experts

That's exactly it. The experts for the most part have not lived with this and do not have our concerns. I am with DJ. I do not like living feeling as if I am not in control of the little that I can be in control of. Doctors are very much needed, but they do not live in our bodies and they can know to a point how we feel, but they don't feel it themselves and I think that each doctor has so many patients and so many treatment options that they can't always know what is best. We need to be our own advocates.
If DarkMark is referring to me about being self righteous, I'm not at all, like I said, the feelings i get in my feet are NOT painful, just uncomfortable, it does not cause me any distress at all. I don't like taking Lyrica as it makes me feel very sleepy and as I drive a lot I don't think it's a good idea to continue taking it. If I'm doing something, which is most of the time, I don't even notice these feelings, so before you start referring to people as self righteous I strongly suggest that you get your facts straight.
