Hello. I have a c2/c3 incomplete. I understand I'm very lucky: I have movement in my legs and can breathe on my own. I only use the ventilator at night and have drastically cut back on my nursing/care giving requirements over the years. One thing I still do is cathing. I've always done intermittent self cath but as my care givers are becoming older it's getting harder for them to do it, and I've tried learning with little success. I've been told that indwelling catheters are very limiting, but in my case I feel self cathing is limiting, both on my ability to be independent and on my bank account. Not only do I have to pay much more for catheters but I also have to pay for a nurse to come in a couple times a day to do it and that is financially difficult. Do you like indwelling catheters or find they hold you back?
Everyone is different. I hated the self Cathing and am glad with my choice of an indwelling Foley. They are dangerous though but I have only been hospitalised once in the five years because of it. I don't think they are limiting at all.I am in control of when I void into the bag cos I use a valve. This means my bladder has remained as nor as possible and not shrunk down to the size of a golf ball which it would if I had been on free flow. At night you can connect up to a high capacity bag. Also if on a car train or plans journey you can use a night bag. On an airplane I take a night bag in a back pack bag and off load into it so no need to try and visit the on board toilet at all. The only thing is you will have to up your fluid intake dramatically to keep well. It's a big move but don't forget it's reversible. If you don't like you can change back. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Have you considered a suprapubic? I've had good success with mine.
