I am a 24 year old Male who is a T4/T5 complete paraplegic. I was injured in a car crash 18 months ago, have been out of the hospital for 15 months living with my parents as I work on moving out. I am moving to Denver in a month and recently I have had some bladder incontinence issues. I am trying to make sure I drink plenty of water and cranberry juice to keep flushing my system, but lately every 2 hours or so I have accidents. As the accident is happening or right after I try to cath as I have been, sometimes the catheter doesn't seem to bring any urine and then I have more accidents on that.
This pattern is clearly causing me to not be able to empty my bladder, and as a young adult who wants to be social, have friends and a job, this is causing an unbelievable amount of stress. I have no paraplegic friends so I have not really known where to go so I figured maybe someone here can help me.
I was the same with self Cathing it never worked great and was always having accidents. I have a mate who is a paraplegic and I am sure he has a drug which stops him from urinating the normal way and he self caths to empty. If this is fiction and I have imagined it then sorry. I on the other hand got in such a mess with it all I opted for permanent catheterization. Self Cathing was so not for me. Obviously a Foley brings with it problems of its own but I I think it's well worth the risk. I have been permanently Catheterised now for five years this February. Have it changed every six weeks. I have a bag worn high on my leg it's ok even with most shorts. I would never go back. Hope you find what works for you.

Yes there are drugs that will help with leakage issues.
Hitithard, First question is did you get a culture and sensitivity test to make sure you do not have an infection? Usually recent changes like yours are caused by something.
I step in the water, but the water has moved on...
regular79,vintage,catheterboy,tetra, I'm in indiana right now but moving to Denver colorado in a month. I've had 2 UTIs before and this does not feel like one. I have been drinking properly and not felt any of the side effects that come with UTIs like fever, lack of energy, anything like that.
The thing is, and a lot of this is being a young male. I'm super stubborn and I will do anything to not have a bag with me at all times. I really would rather not see anyone at all compared to explaining to peers about a foley and bag and stuff. I feel like I should be able to properly self cath and it drives me crazy that I am having issues. regular79,catheterboy, do you happen to know any of the drugs that help him? I would love to run that by my doctor, I have an appt in 3 weeks.
Thanks so much all I really appreciate all your help
Also, when I notice that I am starting to urinate ( i get a weird chill almost down my spine kind of) I go to put my catheter in so that I can pee into the toilet but no matter how far I put that cath in, pee wont come out but then I take the cath out and I will have a large discharge like 2 minutes after. Very frustrating and I also dont like wasting caths because they cost money obviously.

Ok I have it. It's called Solifenacin. 10mg. He says you must cath every four hours if you use it. You talk to your doctor about it see what he says. Good luck

Thinking about your weird chill I have had those. I put them down to bladder spasms but could be wrong. I only have to turn a tap on in the bath room and I get a strange sensation.
catheterboy Yeah it seems very similar to bladder spasms but when I was in the rehab hospital the doctors chalked it up to not emptying all the way so I've never really known...
