So since my injury I haven't been able to tell or "feel" when I have to pee. I don't receive that brain to body "signal". I can pee independently, but I have to set timers and stuff to remind myself to go to the bathroom otherwise I won't know to go and will wet myself.

My husband has this issue but he has a Foley catheter. when we tried to self cath they told us to get on a routine but as he has open pressure wounds they put the foley cath back in. best of luck!!

I have a Foley catheter too. My problem was two fold not knowing when I had to go and also retention. Self Cathing was not for me I hated it. Have been permanently Catheterised now for five years.
Kiddo used to have this problem but now he gets a few minutes warning, that started happening 2 years post injury. He can mostly pee at will without a cath now he's still using them some days.
I set a timer also to remind me to pee I get a little indication for my bowel with some cramping in my stomach but with that I need to get to a toilet real soon. I have kept wearing a pad, partly to catch any leaking as well as I have found it helps keep any of my poop in since it gives me a tighter fit so poop does not end up in my underwear. I do not have a good bowel routine.
I'm now 6+ post (T-5 complete) and have to straight catch 6 times daily. On average, I do it every 4 hours. But I have found that, once I go to bed, I have to pee about 2 hours after bedtime. Otherwise, I will wet the bed. But then I can go around 5 hours in bed without peeing. I think that, when my body relaxes, it also lets go of fluid. Of course, if I drink a lot then I shorten the time periods. Though I don't "feel" the need to pee, I often wake up at night right after I have started to leak. I know this because there is just a little wetness.
It sounds like you are on the right track. This all sucks, doesn't it?
mike, I’m female, and spasticity makes it almost impossible to cath. Foley caths caused constant UTI’s in me. I don’t want a suprapubic. I wear diapers now, full-time. I just want to suggest for you to wear a diaper at night. It’s sad, but it isn’t the end of the world.
I do wear a "diaper" at night. In fact, all the time. But they only work some of the time. If I'm laying on my side, leaks dribble down against my skin and onto the bed, instead of going into the diaper. Fortunately, my bed is a plastic/vinyl air mattress which repels liquid.
Me too, mike. Gone are the days of the comfy, dry, soft linens. I’m just glad when the plastic/viny bed cover doesn’t get wrinkled under me. Hey! You use an air-mattress? Could you give me a link to what you use, please? Oh, and I also go to bed with a disposable chuck under me. But I usually have to dispose of that in the middle of the night when I change my diaper, and I don’t replace it. Mostly, I started sleeping on a chuck (pad) because it makes it safer for my skin when I slide into bed at night.
