Hey all, my name is Alex and I am working on designing a standing device for people with paraplegia and I was wondering if there was anyone here who would like to be interviewed on design desires or give feedback. Any help would be greatly appreciated and my team and I are very passionate about designing the best device we can and getting direct contact with users would be awesome. Thanks for your time!
It’s a great project, apddesign. I really need to get into a standing attitude. It would improve my elimination. But right now, I’m not feeling up to an interview or even writing about it,...definitely not “in person”. I tried futilely to get a standing wheelchair. But here are the rules: wait five years after the government gave you your last wheelchair; AND that last wheelchair is not working and is beyond repair. Well, who in their right mind would let things get that bad? Of COURSE a disabled person would plan ahead enough not to be months without a working wheelchair. The rules force the disabled person to buy (or beg) a wheelchair out of their own pocket in order to transition to the new equipment. So, Me,...my electronic wheelchair is in perfect condition,.,,not falling apart. But I want a standing wheelchair. It’s not going to happen. If you make a reasonably priced standing device, it should have great response.
what kind of interview? my husband is interested in a standing device but we can not afford one and it would help with the pressure sore he has cause he is always sitting
I have medicare only and I recently recvd delivery of new power chair. I had to do an evaluation with a rehab hospital where a rep from numotion was there to evaluate my needs, measure me in all areas and get the process going in a new powerchair. they told me that medicare will not cover a standing wheelchair.

we have medicaid, we actually went on Wednesday to look at a new power chair and go back on Tuesday to get fitted for it. They told us that medicaid will not cover it either, but we could sign up for medicaid waiver and it would cover the cost of a lot of other things but not a standing device. ... not sure which insurance you have to have to cover it but i would love to get that!
Here’s the info I passed on to my case worker. My doctor cooperated. But the glitch for me is that (as explained above) my previous wheelchair given to me by the government is too new and in too good of condition. www.karmanhealthcare.com/how-to-get-your-standing-wheelchair-funded/
Hey thanks for the responses! We are aiming to make a low cost device that will hopefully eliminate the need to rely on insurance coverage (~$1000). Private message me if you'd be willing to answer some questions about design specifications!
