I just have a quick and probably easily answered question. I poop once a day, and I almost always use an enema to get things going because I have flaccid bowels (little to no peristalsis). I can go without one, but I don't get to empty how I should and have to do way too much digi-stim. I'm just wondering, could using enema this much, are there any negative side effects?
Also, my toilet time is significantly shorter when I use an enema. I'm just curious. Love to hear your input!
G'day night, I am starting using the peristeen system tomorrow morning for the first time, can't handle my bowel issues any longer. My current BM consists of morning sitting with a digital stimulation for around an hour evening again sit for at least an hour then bed with 2 coloxyl with senna tablets and 2 movicol sachets and pray that I do something the next morning or evening. I will let you know how the peristeen system goes...
Good question Knight! My bowel routines take close to an hour as well, every morning, and on some days it's better than others. The days I don't go much I end up doing more digital stims and I hate it. I never thought about enemas until Butiki started his thread on peristeen. I have no experience with it so I can't answer you but I'm sure someone will be able to and definitely Butiki once he try's it out.

I have not used Peristeen myself but folks are raving about it on another forum. It seems to work very well and doesn't take that much time! Unfortunately it costs just a little too much for folks without insurance but I would suggest that you google it and try it out!
I'm hesitant to try something new as this program is working well for me. Medicaid doesn't cover much, so a product has to be inexpensive. Less than a dollar per enema is good. I was thinking of looking into enemeez just out of curiosity. I'll check out the peristeen.

I have a flaccid bowel too Knight..do you take any laxatives to help you go?
Highly recommend peristeen, but much more than a dollar a day, the catheters are $10.65 each here in Australia. But we are getting 5 uses out of one catheter, although they are single use I just can't afford to use a new one each time. But if your bowel program is working well for you stick with it.
I have a flaccid bowel from an L4-L5 injury that seems like it's more than just the sphincter. If I don't watch the calendar I can't tell when I need to go at all. And have had bloody mucus with bowel evacuations and wondering what that means. I use suppositories and enemas. Sometimes neither works.
I might be wrong chrioli, but I believe the mucus can be overflow from a blocked bowel. I used to get the same and that's what I was told. I would have a very smelly accedent no poop but just this yucky smelly mucus, yuk.

Thank you for reply Bukti, I certainly will tell my healthcare provider. I have had such a hard time getting this area of CES straightened out
Definitely get this checked out chrioli. I have found that diet and exercise is so important to help our bowels function with a little more ease...and the appropriate meds of course.
Flaccid bowels do seem to respond well to peristeen.
I don't take anything and try to do my bowel program every morning. My problem is when done with bowel program my stomach hurts and I just want to lay down. I have tried suppository and laxative but they hurt my stomach even more. I have flaccid bowel too. I really do drag my feet having to go, is it the bowel program that is causing my stomach pain? My SCI level is L2. Sorry. This is a long message:)
