Has anyone got The Jazzy Passport folding w/c? If so - what do you think of it? Marketed here in the UK as Pride I-Go Plus Folding Powerchair (not quite such a catchy name Can't find a local dealer to get a proper demo but on paper looks perfect. We tried the earlier I-go model but it was unsuitable as footrest wasn't right for Peter and also made for mainly indoors. The new model has bigger pneumatic wheels for outdoor use and a much better footplate though a bit heavier at 24 kgs.
If you and Peter prefer your walks on paved surfaces how about a small mobility scooter? The are not bad, and some break down to put in the boot. I have a firefly and love it. It is very easy to drive and to detach when in need of a restroom. I've no idea if they are available in the UK, nor for how much. They are quite a challenge to set up on your wheelchair. My intelligent younger generation needed 4 hours of fiddling and watching the instructional video to get it one. Once done, it's done.
This sort of thing will definitely make life more enjoyable.
I step in the water, but the water has moved on...
Hi tetra , We considered a firefly - seemed like a great idea. But we have been told they need to be attached to a rigid front wheelchair rather then the swing out leg bits that Peter's fold up one have. Also suspension on his manual chair not good - hard tires make it a rough ride and he is looking for some comfort when using outdoors. We are still looking at mobility scooters as there are quite a few on the market. Two issues with them are legroom as Peter can't keep his knees at 90 degrees for any length of time - makes his left knee really painful and sets off a reaction that makes his whole body get stiffer. The other unknown is whether he would be able to sit in the correct position for a long time- might be tough on his shoulders which aren't good. I know we are getting picky but it's a lot of money to spend so needs to be right. So we have arranged for a home demo of the Luggie mobility scooter range as they do a couple of good fold up ones. This looks good on paper www.luggiescooters.com/elite-folding-mobility-scooter/
We have had demos of a few folding "lightweight" (ha!) power chairs but nothing quite right. The Jazzy Passport (iGO plus in UK) looks very promising and I am trying to find a local stockist so he can try it. But wondered if anyone on here had one and what their opinion was.
PS - hope you are well and safe amongst all the virus madness Tetra
