Admittedly, these are my UTI cures. Take two or three capsules of Ornithine. (Or follow directions on the bottle.) It neutralizes ammonia inside your body. Make tea of marshmallow root, hydraengea root, and gravel root. Drink very little, a quarter cup, and wait a couple of hours before drinking more. This dissolves debris in the urinary tract. (Buy from an herbal store online and follow the directions that come with the herbs.) Take a good anti-bacterial herb like turmeric, cloves, or cinnamon. You should smell like an Indian spice shop, which isn't all that bad.
Please check with your doctor before taking any of these alternative therapy remedies.

You’re welcome, mrdiger. The chiropractor who taught ne about herbs and vitamins,... many moons ago,... was not an advocate of taking the health food variety “vitamins”. He was a brilliant man and wanted his patients to actually get well,... sometimes even paying for the supplements of indigent patients himself. He taught me that most so-called “vitamins” are nothing more than toxic chemicals,... this due to the fact that once the “vitamin” is separated from its natural synergists, it becomes toxic to humans. So, may I encourage you to stop taking “vitamins” and spend your money on high quality “food” instead? Best wishes. Unless I have misunderstood your post, and your vitamin-d IS food?
mrdiger, I wasn’t able to “like” your comment. The “like” wouldn’t register. I’m suspicious that I wasn’t able to register my “like” because you have already (rather shamelessly) “liked” your own post.
Little late to this thread but I wanted to chip in. For the longest time all I did was a bladder rinse twice a week with gentamicin and that kept infections and smell away. Randomly in late fall last year my urine developed an ungodly odor was strange, not just strong urine but almost like ham but in a bad way. It would make my leg bag smell by the end of day 1 on that bag. Got it tested and it turned out I had a bacterial colonization of a few bacteria but it wasn't actually an infection. Essentially it was giving my urine odor but it wasn't actually hurting anything so they wouldn't give me anything. It was actually being caused from cathing, introducing this bacteria but the gent wasn't killing it. It's a long story but through various events I went on bactrim which is a broad antibiotic and very cheap, like $5 for a 30 pack lol. That got rid of the odor so I discussed it with my SCI doc and urologist and they agreed to put me on an "as needed" dose of bactrim. It's common to have SCI patients on a somewhat regular dose of a general antibiotic for various infections so it's not something I had to fight for. Initially they said just take one every day but with further discussion (since I don't like taking them more than I need) they agreed I could take as needed. For me that amounts to taking one before I cath. I would discuss something like this with your doc and see what they think.
