Any questions on work/volunteering after SCI

Hey guys...ive just come back home after a long but really good day on the course with the Spinal Injuries Association.


Im going to share the info that i picked up............i have a memory stick to look at and some leaflets lol but on the whole the feedback is all positive,. There were some examples of people with different SCI levels who had gone on to achieve varied occupations despite their injuries.

DJ you may be interested to know that one guy went on to study Law...he had a complete C5/6 injury and was also vented.....,and yet he managed to achieve his Law certification and practice also. He transported to work daily on a train, was very  inspirational.

Here in the UK we have several organisations that will offer support both financially and practically so that people with all kinds of disabilities can access work...and it seems to working very effectively. The government funds one and some people have been bought new chairs, or adapted car etc.

I wonder if i can find out if this service is available in other countries?

I also arranged to go practice with the local wheelchair basketball team,...yay indeed!! 

Well i had the memory stick i was given sat on the side of my couche, the lively doggie jumped on the couche to sit with me and the memory is in a magical place where all the one missing socks go to.... ....i have to find it lol...


but the basketball does sound fun,i personally prefer rugby though against guys its a real rough game...so basketball should be the safer option..I was told that because i have a low level injury i will be given a faster chair..way to go!!!! lol fun...

DJ, i didnt ask the guy because as he said it my mind had already wandered to the thoughts of high speed wheeling around the court ...he did explain the the chairs have more camber..angles wheels much more. I think its more to do with core stability maybe? 

I really should have asked...
