Today is the 12 month anniversary of my injury, so it's now one year into my new life. Apart from my bowels and bladder I seem to be coping quite well. In the last few months I have started walking and getting a fair bit of strength back in my legs, but I have accepted the fact that I will never walk unaided again, ah well that's life. I think I will get drunk today to celebrate this wonderful new world I I entered

Hey Butiki don't lose hope man! From what I've been told the first 2 years are crucial for regaining back strength and movement. I'm coming up on my 3 year in April and I'm still improving brutha!

Congratulations for passing through your first year with determination and for getting back onto your feet again. Keep going with your daily exercise and push the boundaries.
My advice, don't accept that you'll never walk again unaided. There's so much research and clinical trials going on at the moment, that there's sure to be a breakthrough.
My daughter, Tennille, just passed through her third anniversary of her accident on October 31st. She's a ventilator dependent quad and we're still hopeful of a breakthrough to give her back just some of her independence.
You've come a long way Butiki and I think you're doing great! Seeing how much you can walk now I really don't think you should accept the fact that you'll never walk again unaided (as the others have mentioned) because I really think it's possible! I know you've started to work extra hard and if you keep it up you'll surely be walking unaided in no time!
Thanks for all the good wishes and support I'm getting from you guys and gals, you are a great bunch of people I'm so very glad that I joined this forum.
Well I didn't get drunk, just a quiet day at home with the family, my wife made a number of calls home to the Philippines to make sure everyone is ok, and thank god they are, the typhoon was a fair way to the north of where the family are,and Telstra, our national phone company is allowing unlimited free calls to the philippines till 25th November, landlines and mobiles which is very nice of them. So tomorrow we are going out for a drive to a beautiful place called palm valley, you should google it, really amazing place
Thank you Butiki, I'm really glad you're here with us Spending time with your family is great mate, better than getting drunk in my opinion Glad to hear everyone's ok from your wife's side, it has been a pretty tragic situation in the Phillipines. Great thing your phone company is doing though, it's very nice! In North America I think they'd increase the prices because they'll know that people will use the service either way
