I thought it would be an idea to have a thread dedicated to natural home remedies that promote good health. Suggestions that are added to this thread are not intended to be used as a replacement for your prescribed medication but instead are a consideration for assisting and aiding wellbeing.
If you are on blood thinners always check with a pharmacist or doctor before taking any of the following to make sure they do not interact with you medication. I will start with this one ...
Heartburn & Severe Acid Reflux
A spoonful of baking soda…
A teaspoon of baking soda, can help put an end to the uncomfortable, burning, sensation of heartburn caused by acid reflux. Baking soda, as sodium bicarbonate is more commonly known, can help your reflux and in turn help your heartburn because it is a base substance. It has a pH higher than 7.0, and therefore neutralizes stomach acid. Neutralizing the stomach acid means that if/when your LES decides to be lazy and acid comes up your throat, you don’t get “burned.”
You will need…
1/2 teaspoon or 1 teaspoon of baking soda
a glass of fresh water
Directions
Mix either a ½ teaspoon or 1 single teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water that is no more than 8 ounces. Give it a good stir and drink all of the mixture. You can repeat this as needed but should not exceed seven ½ teaspoon doses in a 24 hour period. Also, avoid using this as a remedy for more than a week straight, as it is high in salt and can have side effects such as swelling or nausea.
Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar will help sooth and heal hemorrhoids – the panacea of natural remedies. Soak a cotton wool ball and dab it to the anal area.
Witch Hazel – The Oldest Remedy Use witch hazel, Hamamelis virginiana, topically, in the form of a cream, liquid or as a compress. It will help to reduce bleeding and relieve pain, itchiness and swelling. You can buy pads pre-soaked with witch hazel. Or just apply pure witch hazel and use direct to the area using a cotton ball. Aloe vera can be added to cool the area.
Do you have trouble sleeping? Here are two natural remedies that can help
Chamomile Chamomile is widely known to help with sleep and is a popular remedy. It is used by practitioners of natural medicine and recent results from in-vivo trials have suggested that it can promote restful sleep. Chamomile is also used for its calming effect for anxiety. You can buy chamomile tea bags and take as a drink before bed time.
(please note chamomile is know to interact with blood thinners)
Valerian
Results from studies suggest that valerian, a tall, flowering grassland plant, may reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and help you sleep better. It is considered to be a relatively strong and effective and also help with depression/anxiety.
If you buy it in the dried form Use one level teaspoon of ground Valerian root to 6 ounces of hot water. Allow to steep for 5 minutes. Alternatively, you can purchase in capsule form or tea bag, each will come with dosage instructions.
(Valerian may not be safe if you're pregnant or breast-feeding. If you have liver disease, avoid taking valerian)

Turmeric is believed to be beneficial as a cancer prevention, anti inflammatory, pain reliever and antiseptic, liver detoxification and brain health support.
While studies concerning the health benefits of turmeric are still premature, early evidence has linked turmeric to a slew of health benefits, most of which are based on its most active component, curcumin, the compound that also gives turmeric its yellow-orange color.
Turmeric is full of powerful antioxidants, including curcumin, which are known to fight cancer-causing free radicals. Most research done on the health benefits of turmeric have been done using curcumin, not the whole turmeric root. While the studies are promising, more research, especially those using human subjects, need to be done.

This drink is rich in antioxidants and amino acids, drinking it once or twice a day will give you benefits to your immune system. The apple is packed with antioxidants, which help rid your body of free-radicals-free radicals can damage the immune system.
The melon and carrot juice are full of amino acids, which are needed to trigger the response of our T cells to rid our body of invaders.
Directions
You will need…
-½ cup 1 inch cubed watermelon -½ cup 1 inch cubed cantaloupe -¼ cup apple, cut into smallish chunks -2 cups of organic carrot juice
Chop ½ cup each of watermelon and cantaloupe into 1 inch cubes. Slice up an apple into chunks, and toss all your fruit in the blender. Add 2 cups of organic carrot juice, and blend until desired consistency has been reached. More juice will make it thinner, while less will yield a thicker blend.
Here is a great drink that will help keep your bladder flushed to help prevent the build up of bacteria. Could be a great daily addiction to your diet..maybe with breakfast?
I would imagine this is best blended with water or use pure unsweetened cranberry juice.
Lemon
A good source of potassium, Vitamin C, calcium, Vitamin A, and citric acid, lemon is claimed as one of the most effective home remedies for urinary tract infections.
Blueberries In a similar fashion to cranberries, blueberries are also claimed to be effective in flushing urinary tract infections. Blueberries are excellent sources of iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and folic acid. They are also rich sources of proanthocyanidins, a powerful compound responsible for the treatment of UTI. Watermelon
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), urinary tract infection is a condition triggered by heat and damp in the lower abdominal area of the body. TCM practitioners believe that since watermelon is sweet and cold, then it makes an excellent remedy for the symptoms of UTI. Cranberries
Upon the onset of urinary tract infection, intake of cranberry juice is widely agreed to be of great help. Just like blueberries, cranberries contain highly potent compounds that inhibit bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract. **Please note that if you are taking blood thinners, the cranberry will interact so do not use the cranberry**
