It's good to see that they're doing something about this in Canada!
Municipalities are trying to crackdown on able-bodied people taking over spots for the disabled.
Vince Miele, a paraplegic since the 1970s, has had to circle parking lots for a spot he can use, only to discover that many fellow motorists are not always honourable.
“I say if you’re going to park there, you’re going to take away a spot from someone who really needs it” says Miele.

I always wonder why people have their placards when I see them getting out of their vechicles. Something needs to be changed because of all the abuse. I think a senior citizen row of spaces, next to or behind the handicap spots might help.

I went to the Laundromat several days ago. Someone was in the disabled spot, with no disabled tag. It was a small place and I decided that someone needed to be confronted. I whipped out my blue disabled tag and found someone in that car! Luckily I had my quad cane with me and was prepared to do violence, but the woman apologized and said that her boyfriend had just gone in, and she moved the car for me.
People just don't think. And it can be extremely aggravating.
well, it's a start and we can only hope that they do more about this issue.
DJ, Right there with you! Wish there would be more enforcement in the USA, but local and state police say that if there is a placard, thy cannot question driver about proving reason. We get a "reason card" with our placard, so should be enforceable.

wavewolf, you guys already have "reason cards" or are you saying it'd be a good idea to get them? I've never heard of them before but that sounds like a great idea!

DJ, When we get our placard, we also get something that looks like a registration, which specifies reason for qualifying for placard. IPlacards are to be used when the person matching the "reason card" is either driving or a passenger in the vehicle. If using a placard, you are required to carry the "reason card". I have both a license plate for the modified vehicle I drive, and a placard for when I travel with someone else. Unfortunately, I couldn't maintain my vanity plate stamping, FURRARI, for a disabled license plate!
