I have a doctors app. in two weeks to discuss a new bladder management and was thinking of getting a stent to keep my sphincter open. Anybody here have one and could give me theyr experiences and opinions.The good and the bad.

Hi handiman, Welcome to the forum also. I haven't heard of this procedure but I would offer to swap sphincters if we could. I want mine to stay closed more.
Thats right. My bladder doesnt reflex void well anymore so i retain a lot. The stent is placed in the sphyncter so it stays open and the bladder drains.

The biggest risk is a UTI from the sphincter not closing. As long as you stay well hydrated it shouldn't be a problem.
I don't have one but I have had a Foley that performs the same function and I did get a UTI after 10 days. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen.

Hey truwrecks, I have heard some bad stuff about the foley's and UTI's. I think the foley being something foreign to the body contributes to the UTI's. I think the stent might actually help since it'll make sure that there's no residual urine in the bladder.
