I have found yoga to be especially effective in reducing nerve pain. Its also a great way to exercise and stretch. There are yoga practices tailored to everyones needs. For people with limited mobility, seated yoga is a great option.
Meditation can also be helpful but is more complex to master.
Ok Guys...this one isnt a medic expert thread..this one is purely for members to share their tips on how they deal with SCI related pain. Just simply what you find helps...what do you do that works for you to help relieve. We are our own experts in this one, of course this thread is not intended to take away the importance of your regular meds....we just want to hear anything that you find helpful that other members may find interesting also.

Exercise, is my most effective weapon against general aches and pains. I always feel better after I workout, have more energy, and feel like it's the only way I can fight back.

This is suppose to be the first post in this thread, I'm not sure why it didn't move properly.
For me the methods of non-pharma pain management are physical therapies specific to my needs (myofascial release massage, trigger point pressure using Theracane), movement (exercises for strength, balance, and stretching; also dancing, privately of course!), and distraction (listening to or playing music, service dog training, interacting with friends). I am taking only an antispasmodic (baclofen, low dose), as I cannot tolerate pain meds well and need my liver to be able to handle the potent meds I take for my disease.
DJ, yoga movements are a safe way to increase flexibility.
That's good to know wavewolf, thanks! When it comes to pain (including nerve pain) I don't use any meds and I don't use any even with a bit of pain. I'm someone who hates taking medication and can be pretty stubborn to take even if I really need it. The only thing I cannot handle and need meds for is if I get serious AD. In that case, I'll take anything to get rid of it because it's so bad!
