I watched this video and couldnt help thinking that it looked such hard work! They guy made it look manageable because he is incredibly strong...but for many this would be impossible
The whole time i was thinking...''ramp..get a ramp....please''
Ahhhh! Crazy dude. I would have just gotten out if my chair climbed up on my butt and drug my chair with. Much safer. However, I did master going down one step/curb in my chair.
I remember seeing paraplegics at rehab trying the stairs when practicing wheelchair skills with their physiotherapists and it definitely didn't look easy. I'd never bother trying it but when I practiced wheelchair skills I was able to pop a wheelie and go down a curb too Knight!

Well in rehab my OT got me to try going over a curb but she didn't really encourage me to practice poppa wheelies. Needless to say, I am not good. Wish I had someone to practice with or there was a w/c skills clinic around here.

Oh, how did she get you to go down the curb?
I'd love to continue practicing my wheelchair skills now that I'm stronger

Well first she has a strap attached to the back of my w/c and she is behind me so I don't flip over backwards, and she has he had close to one of my front shoulder so I don't flip over onto my face. then I pop a wheelie and slowly advance to the edge of the curb, then I go over the edge so I land on my back wheels and then the front wheels land down and you are down safe and sound. If you go over with your front wheels first well you will land on your face. Those anti flip thingies in the back have to be off also otherwise you will hook them.

Ah yes that's how I did it too. I thought you went down the curb without doing a wheelie!

Well, I have done it that way but I don't recommend it if you want to stay in your chair.
Knight, Yeah, much safer to get out of chair and drag it up if that is possible. I am very strong in upper body and tried it as he does in video, and got a monster splinter from treated lumber. Decided that was not worth the risk! Plush, using shoulders in this way will deplete them quickly...
