I was wondering if people in other countries get help with the cost of continence aids. Here in Australia we have the the Continence Aids Payment Scheme. We get the huge sum of $533.50 a year, paid on the 1st of July each year. Its not much really considering I spend over $400 and month on catheters and Peristeen alone, but I guess it helps a bit. What I did last year was buy 1000 catheters in one go, and drank what was left, lol . Here is the link to the Government department that oversees this scheme
Medicaid covers 150 catheters per month, nothing more. I have to pay out-of-pocket for enemas, pads, and extra catheters, or I have to reuse caths at the end of the month. I try not to cath more than 5 times a day, but sometimes my intake is more. I try to stay hydrated but when you have a limit on catheters, it gets difficult.
Here in the UK the government provides all continence needs at no cost...We dont have to take out policies here to cover any medical expenses so in this way we are very lucky.
We also get some supplies covered but not all. I think only about 25% of my supplies are government funded and the rest is up to me! The UK definitely has a great system for healthcare & funding
Well my insurance plan at work reimburses 75% up to the first 2000$ of yearly expenses, including meds, then they pay 100%. My plan doesn't come cheaply though, at just over 3000$ per year!!
