I have noticed this many times and just thought that it would improve over time. I first noticed when i started walking with my crutches last year and i went to wash my face in the bathroom.
To stand and balance i lock my knees as this helps to keep me steady..so i washed my face and dried with a towel..as i did this i went to immediately fall forward....
One year on and still i cannot balance with my eyes closed..its like im standing on one of those wobble boards at rehab lol
So..im not recommending anyone try this but im wondering if anyone else has experienced this...? I know your probably thinking..well dont stand with your eyes closed ....But we had a power cut here in my area a few weeks ago and i decided to go get the candle that i had lit in my kitchen.... I found it very difficult to keep walking straight and again my balance was affected greatly....
Im just interested to get some thoughts on this..does our spacial awareness become affected..or perception maybe?

I have to hold something when I close my eyes to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. I work on my balance but it hasn't got much better in three years. I use a Bosu ball, flip it over, stand on it and try to keep your legs still. When you master that, start doing squats. I do want to add that you need something to grab onto until you get the hang of it.
I lose my balance if I close my eyes while sitting on a barstool! I don't have quite as much leg function as you guys, Lαrα & kilg0retr0ut, but I have this problem when I do stand. I can't walk without looking down at my feet and legs while using a walker. I have no proprioception in my legs or feet whatsoever.

Lol..me too Knight...i used to always stare at my feet, especially because they are pretty much numb but i had to stop myself. I tend to look down at my feet more when i am out but just now and then..if i can see my way ahead of me has no obstacles and is flat im good

Yeah, I have no feeling in my feet except for the constant tingle/burn of my neuropathy.

I've had the same thing happen on bar stools before my injury Knight. Nerve damage is really bizzare. I can have a guy whittling in a hole in my ankle, barley feel it, same ankle other side, sock irritates the skin.
Also get the neuropathy, don't know about the eyes closed bit, I have trouble keeping balance with them open. If I have to do anything involving two hands, I usually have to sit down.

my ankles are the same way. My left one is totally numb, my right one, the lightest brush against it and I'm yelling about it!
At first I used to spend all my time wheeling around just in boxers, as I couldn't bear anything at all touching my legs, I even folded my sheets in hospital so my legs below the knees were always uncovered. It has eased slightly, but I still only wear light, loose trousers, like tracksuits.
