I've had a lot going on and thought I'd update my situation. My surgery was in July 2010. Since then I have been trying to remain upright, using AFO's. I'm working on breaking in my third set. The Afo's have been doing great, my legs not so well. I've wore a couple of pressure sores in my ankle. Now I can hardly put any pressure down on my right foot. I have been walking on the outside edges of my feet and now the bones in my right foot seem to have had enough. The medical team that has been working with me have pretty much used up all their tricks in their magic bags, and have given me the option of going to the Mayo clinic ( think that's what it's called) to see if they can come up with something. I'm lucky to have that option, but want to give this third set a fair shot.
They want me to start a predisone pak, to see if it helps with the pain. And I'm reluctant because I already feel I'm on plenty of meds. I take 50mg of Lyrica, and Tramadol 4x a day. I know meds are poo-pooed here but it's an individual choice.
On the plus side I have regained some feeling down below, this is well over 3yrs. into my recovery so don't give up on return. I still get pissed off when I can't get my body to do what my mind wants it to do.
Well that was a fairly crappy update.. My point is that there is a price to pay for upright mobility, I'll continue to pay till my wallets empty. Some may want to be smarter.
I know you're trying hard to remain upright be make sure you take care of yourself. It's not good to overwork yours legs & feet so if they're feeling tired, give them some rest! Mayo clinic does good work and knows their stuff from what I've seen. I hope they can help! As for the meds, well, you gotta do what you gotta do
kilg0retr0ut..thankyou...that was a very honest update..and thankyou for sharing too ...what can i say except you sure aint giving up on that walking without a fight are you!
Very admirable..and i understand why you want to and its exactly right for you, if thats what you want/need ..
Its very frustrating when you body does not work as it should do...but great to hear about the return of sensation!

kilg0retr0ut your are to be applauded for your determination but it does seem that you are suffering too for your mobility. Do you spend some time in a chair at all? If you dont mind me asking

Thanks for the replies No freewheeler, I have only sat in one twice since I left the hospital to see if I could be smarter and conserve. I went to a craft show with my wife and daughter and wheeled around.(Don't laugh about the craft show fellas) Then I tried to wheel one a few blocks this winter while my truck was being worked on, kinda a test run to see how well I could get around in the snow. I don't know, maybe if I was single I would have done things differently. Your right on Ladylimpsalot, never give up. That's kinda how I feel about walking.
