Regularity is more critical than length of time in PT, I think. I do weight training, balance exercises, breathing exercises, stretching, and range of motion every day, with one day off a week. I also do pressure point therapy and myofacial release massage when needed. Sometimes I need to concentrate more on one type of PT, but each is helpful to maintain. Not only have I lessened spasticity, improved muscle strength, and regained full range of motion, but I have experienced some nerve healing that has increased my function. Exercise and good diet help our bodies repair themselves, if that is possible with our injury/disease.

Some very good advice right there wavewolf ...regularity is an important factor and you have also mentioned balance exercises, stretching and range of motion everyday..which is great. I think some of these exercises are forgotten sometimes and yet they are so important.
I go to the Gym once a week to help my upper body strength and then swimming twice so as to try and improve leg strength and function. As it was two years ago when l suddenly found myself with no leg function after a decompression operation that failed, l do feel that l have made good progress. What is important is to keep exercising on a regular timetable.

I need to get back to doing serious workouts. With remodeling last year, pressure sores, blah, blah, I let them slide. So I went to see the trainer I started with. We looked at where I was when I left to where I stand now. My body fat went from 7.25% to 12.9%. Yikes, maybe there is something to this weight gain and Lyrica, but most likely it's because I got lazy. Although my weight didn't change much I gained about 12# of body fat. I want to start again with this trainer but $75 twice a week would break the bank.
This is the part I'd like some input on. I swear it takes way to long for me to recover from a workout. Do you folks have the same issue. I workout Tues, Thurs, and Sat. I'm always sore. I just don't remember being so sore in the past.

I really haven't stopped DJ, but my workouts had become pretty pitiful. I know how to workout the right way but it involves pain. I guess I'm getting soft in my old age.
Hello Lara, I can't tell para's enough how important it is to stay strong. I am 51 years old. I was injured seven years ago. Prior to my accident I was a daily and marathon runner as well as a weightlifter. Growing up all we had was free weights. They give you the most strength and balance over machines. Machines will tone you , but free weights will make you very strong. I highly recommend all para guys to have their T-Levels checked. We tend to fall to a clinically low number when injured. Higher T-levels will increase your immune system, strength, endurance and stamina. I have seen a major difference after taking depo shots every ten days. I take a one ML dose. It has also help me cope better and not think about nerve pain. I stopped taking 90% of my medications , which makes me feel normal again.
If anyone has questions on weight lifting , let me know, feel free to email me here or joemonte@nep.net. I wish everyone well. Best Regards, Joe

Hello joemonte .... Thankyou for sharing..this is great advice! I have recently stopped going to the gym as i have purchased a rower and i want to buy some weights because this is what i miss. When i used the weights at the gym they helped tone my upper body and keep me stronger so i definitely want to keep this up. I will drop you an email later and thankyou
By the way what are T-levels..?
kilg0retr0ut....its true that you could be overdoing it a little and not giving your body time to recover as mentioned already...why not give joemonte an email too?
Hello Laura, I am a T-10 Complete Asia "A". I also do pull-ups that keep my shoulders and upper body very strong. I am not computer savvy to post a pic here but if you email me at joemonte@nep.net. I can send you one to give you an idea how I complete them. It might give some others ideas to set something up in there homes too. Best Regards, Joe P.S. I work out every other day for at least 60 to 90 minutes. I do 20-24- (8/10 reps) sets of certain body parts every other day. Can you over exercise. Sure you can. You need to be smart and start out easy. It took me a full year to master climbing an eight foot ladder rope and do twelve pull-ups. I started out Bench pressing sixty pounds and after a year, I bench 220-240 6 to 8 reps. I also take 1ml of Depo testosterone every ten days. That literally changed my life in a positive way. I also get cortisone shots in both shoulders every three months. I am 51 years old and my shoulders are shot from heavy weightlifting prior to my sci accident. Feel free to email me anytime. Best Regards, Joe
