Since house chores are a little bit more of a challenge after an injury I thought a thread to post tips and tools for how to clean those not so easy to reach areas might be helpful. I'll list out the helpful things that I've learned over the years and hope that you will share your tips too.
Bathroom-
Long handled adjustable scrub brush to clean the shower. I spray it down with cleaner first and let it set and then use the long handled brush to scrub.
Bathroom mirrors are a challenge so I use a long handled squiggy similar to what you would use on your windshield at the gas station. Works great. Those bathroom sink counter tops are difficult to reach over to clean those mirrors so the long handled squiggy is a huge help for me.
Floors-
I use a long armed scrub brush like you see at car washes. It helps loosen the dirt and prevents me from bending over. After the scrubbing I use a regular mop to clean the surface.
I have a roomba robotic vaccum cleaner that I run daily as maintenance and then once a week I use the broom and mop. The roomba makes life much easier.
Hope you can share some of your tips too that we can all learn from.
For almost 2 years after my injury all my chores were done from my wheelchair but now i do using a crutch standing which can be quite challenging and tiring. I tend to do everything one handed...so i find it easier to use disposable wipes for cleaning surfaces and furniture. Most of my floors are hardwood but i have two rooms with carpet.. I tend to use an upright vacuum hoover for all the floors as it also helps me balance.
I have a dishwasher which i love but i didnt when i did my chores in a wheelchair because i found it hard work to load.
I had my kitchen changed to a gallery kitchen once i was walking more as i can use the worktops to balance me.
One thing i always did when i was in my chair was to have a carrier bag with me when i did house chores which i had on the handle...it was great for putting rubbish in as i went along (empty shampoo bottles, toilet roll holders etc) I also hung another bag on the other side with cleaning materials in etc

Excellent. I didn't realize you can stand. That's awesome. My house is all hard wood and tile except for 3 bedrooms. We made the master bedroom hardwood a few years ago. I love it except when my little dogs walk on it in the middle of the night

I would prefer to cook in my chair but i dont have my worktops at an appropriate height...hopefully one day this will be different
Well I used money from my insurance to install an elevator and redo my kitchen and bathroom. I went over budget but it was either that or move out of my house into an apartment or condo.
Kitchen: When redoing the kitchen, we installed this attachment to our central vacuum system and it is at the floor level where the toe kick is. I have to bend down to open it up and the succion starts. So I sweep everywhere and bring in all the sand and dog hairs and it sucks it down into the system. When I sweep, I use a two foot wide dry mop that goes under most furniture and swings in every direction so makes it easier to sweep while moving around in my chair.
I am lucky to say that we chose to have a cleaning lady come in for 3 hours every two weeks. She does the floors, bathrooms and dusting. Especially in winter and wet weather, my husband usually has to wash the floor at least once or twice in between. Our bedroom is the only room left with carpet and when the waterbed dies, we will change to vinyl flooring, like pretty much everywhere else in the house. Much easier to maintain!!

I bet the central vac system is awesome, Sherry! For gardening and flower bed I use pots so I can reach them better. We live in Texas so winter are pretty short typically and we can choose low maintenance plants that don't require a lot during the winter to protect them. I planted tomatoes, jalapenos and cilantro last year in big pots so that I could keep up with them easier. Our flower beds are more low maintenance greenery than flowers. A few strategically placed flower pots.
